It's pretty shit-tier compared to literally every other hmd out there, but there's still some neat stuff you can do.
There's a neat Squarepusher music video you can download. Bunch of POV porn. Lots of 360 videos. The official Cardboard app from Google has some nice demos.

They can be pretty cheap. You can also build one yourself. Other people have made higher quality versions that still fit Cardboard spec.

My experience with Trinus has been mixed at best, abysmal at worst. I tried combining it with Moonlight (a third party app that uses Nvidia Shield streaming technology) and it was almost usable, but not quite. Ymmv. Other people have reported a lot better results.

The enhanced rotational tracking, combined with the low persistence display, makes it a totally different experience. It's a hell of a lot smoother, there's practically zero drift, and it actually has some good software.
Not a whole lot of good software, but there is some. A fun, but buggy Minecraft port, a neat jetpack game, some cool telepathic puzzle games, a Zelda ripoff, among others. Along with all the necessary streaming services, there's also some sideloadable content, like a full port of Quake.

With the mega app you can literally just stream it from the lists given on the /t/ thread. If you have VR Player and shit then you can just stream through those without having to download/torrent shit.
Also I've noticed some videos are shot in different ways, but generally choosing a different projection style fixes it (like cube, sphere, etc in the options in VR Player
