What criteria does /g/ use for picking their motherboards?
>ATX or mATX (or something else)
>brand
>number of SATA connections
>overclocking potential (not sure how one can measure this)
I'm confident in choosing most components, but I'm lost when it comes to picking the 'right' motherboard.

>not sure how one can measure this
generally the VRM phase count and heatsinks as well as good quality (Japanese) capacitors.
>if i need to oc
pick Z whatever chipset and see if vrms are appropriate for the cpu
>if i don't need to oc
just the cheapest one with a socket appropriate to cpu
can't really go wrong with any manufacturer these days, asus, asrock, gigabyte and msi are all solid
Whichever one has the coolest LEDs on it.

If i'm OCing I'll look at reviews
If I'm not Ill find the cheapest board with the most features I want
Whatever has the ports I need + is the most future proof in terms of upgrade ability.

>Does it have the socket I need?
>Does it have the top-tier chipset?
>Does it fit in my case?
>Does it have PCI slots in the right place?
>Is it a brand I trust?
>Does it cost a gorillion dollars?
