I have an 8350 and I can't recommend this cpu, let alone any less powerful one, at all.
If you buy an AMD cpu that means when you want to upgrade you'll have to get a new mobo too. that's pretty fucking lame
for a budget machine, that you plan on keeping and upgrading, I'd recommend whatever $60 pentium you can get with a decent cooler and a mobo to overclock it. That way, down the line, you could even upgrade to an i5 or i7 and have an almost brand new computer just by changing one component

For the love of god do not get an athlon X4. I had one like 4 years ago and that thing could barely handle games at the time. It's probably like a 6 year old CPU at this point. It's going to severely bottleneck your games and probably won't even be able to run new games at all. Get an i3 and a decent Intel motherboard and then upgrade to an i5 later when you have more money. An i3 outperforms the athlon x4 in probably everything for not much more money. Trust me you will thank me in the long run.
