Is it worth it for me to get infinality on debian?
>>54512276
>Is it worth it for me to get infinality on debian?
Not really, just configure fontconfig. It's not that hard. I enabled sub-pixel rendering (RGB), slight hinting and lcdfilter (this on Gentoo, Debian should be the same).
Also install some good fonts. I use Liberation and Noto (big font package including Asian languages etc)

why even live
>>54512541
My resolution is low but I still don't have a good reason to upgrade my laptop.
>>54512649
you could still upgrade your font rendering.
use something like this in your fonts.conf or customize it.<?xml version='1.0'?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
<fontconfig>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="rgba">
<const>rgb</const>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="hinting">
<bool>true</bool>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle">
<const>hintslight</const>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="antialias">
<bool>true</bool>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter">
<const>lcddefault</const>
</edit>
</match>
</fontconfig>
>>54512827
Is this meaningful if I already have infinality installed?
>>54512864
uninstall it and use this, you clearly fucked up on installing infinality.
>font rendering
>worrying about the quality of font rendering
Why not just write a page down if you want good font rendering?
OS X Rendering = Perfection
What is this meme?
>>54512897
some people here deal with huge amounts of text every day. easy readability is important for these people.
R8
>>54512879
It is installed correctly. I probably just prefer a different hint style than you.
>>54512911
it's not as good as >>54512827
-Debian Testing(stretch)
-Rebuilt FreeType with subpixel hinting + custom LCD filter
-Linux Libertine, MS core fonts and Helvetica family(stolen from a Mac machine I had access some time ago)

Android rendering can get the same results as iOS, if you provide the required fonts.

I changed my font config and everything still looks the same. Am I supposed to restart something?
>>54513136
yuck
>>54513515
yes, you need to restart x. on gnome it should be default that you restart x with ctrl+alt+backspace
>>54512570
holy shit, how'd you do that?
>>54513136
What settings/font are you using? My little japanese characters look blurry compared to yours
>>54513645
Enable subpixel rendering.
(RGBA in some settings)

Thanks! I guess I had to put it in local.conf instead of just enabling it with eselect. Weird
>>54513689
Interesting... so I have to eselect enable dejavu liberation to use them? How are you using noto?
Herp Derp.
How can I fix Windows 10 atrocious font rendering? I use Linux usually but sometimes I need to go on Winblows and the font triggers me.
>>54513734
eselect is a Gentoo specific tool. user.conf can also mess up things, and DEs can override things too.
>>54513754
Okay, I eselect disabled user.conf. Hopefully it uses noto now
>>54513781
There is a way to specify what fonts you want to use. Check out Arch's wiki pages for fonts/fontconfig.
The fonts all strain my eyes, the best font is Apple's San Francisco
>>54513793

>Liberation Sans
I'd prefer having the real fonts that Liberation tries to replace.
(ttf-mscorefonts-installer for debian-based distros)
How do you know if you have bad font rendering?
>>54514240
pic related
basically if they look bad
>>54511881
Thanks to Ubuntu, font rendering is pretty neat ootb

well done, best in the thread.
Anyone know how to fix this?
this look okay?
nothing installed. fluxbox with gnome installed in the back.
>>54514281
I don't know senpai. That already surprised me. I think it's the Arial font. I changed my browser font to Ubuntu and they look much better now.
>>54514288
Well, I'm half a normie, half an autist like you guys.
>>54517320

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You guys know how awful w10 font rendering is, no need to post a screenshot.
I just cannot switch and honestly dual booting seems like a waste of time given the fact I'd have to use Windows pretty frequently anyways. I hate reading on windows. I hate it. Have to zoom every fucking thing in.
>>54513744
Run the ClearType wizard, if it's still bad you can try installing MacType
Windows 10 and stuff
>>54511881 (OP)
Win 7
>>54512911
Lol everything is set to bold.
Using Cantarell as my font, any suggestions?
Meh.
