Hey /g/
Is the mac mini worth getting?
I'm training to be a audio engineer, so I'm looking for a mac that is affordable for me..
From what I hear it's very good for the price.
I run logic and pro tools for my projects
They might refresh the Mini soon, I'd wait.

No, not at the moment. It's horribly outdated. You don't really need macs for audio applications though. With proper hardware it's basically the same on Windows these days.
If you still insist on working on a mac, look for used ones on ebay or in Apple's refurbished store (in case you are a student you can also get a student's refund). It's also possible to install OS X on regular hardware ("Hackintosh", google it), but I can't recommend it really. It's somewhat difficult and you may end up with only partial hardware compatibility, so you might end up without a working sound card etc.

It's shit
were using these at work in a high volume production print shop to display color proofs on 4K televisions they are slow and shitty
customers send out un optimized digital color proofs and file sizes can be 250mb a picture and these things CHUG to open them in acrobat reader if you que up color proofs for multiple press runs too fast acrobat reader will crash

lol i dont really give a fuck im a press operator not the tech guy
the entire set up is fraught with problems there are multiple tvs being used on different printing presses in proximity of each other and one TV remote will work all 6 televisions lol

Thanks guys
i think ill save up for something better

Get an iMac
Cheaper than macbook pro and will last you ages. The screen is a huge plus.

yeah, an iMac is probably your best bet if you need to go Apple.

if they refresh the Mini it'd be a good buy, the current ones are outdated.
IMO you should look for a used macbook pro retina, 2013 or later. people are trying to sell them for super high prices but you can probably talk them down to a reasonable price.
