No
Start with C & ASM

Wait what. Java-primary CS student here, I thought Android was going to be easy to dev for with my main language, this not the case?

don't fall for the memes.
if you want to develop for android then learning java as start is perfectly valid.
learn c and asm if you want to have a deeper understanding of how computers work and if you want to write performance critical or system software.
start with java and don't forget to expand your knowledge later.

Yup. Facebook Android app engineer here, we write everything in ASM.

They're fucking around with you.
Java is a decent starting language, and an especially good choice if your goal is making Android apps, since it's the main language used in Android.

I've been doing Java for a couple years of study now (and some C#, assembly, and pig disgusting Swift), but C++ is getting learned next semester (well, this summer since I'm not going to wait). Guess I could look at the old grandpappy too.
