Wow, foobar2000 on Android plays the video game chiptune formats out of the box! I am instantly fucking sold. Doesn't look too terrible either once I changed to the dark theme. They just need to polish it up with some more options and it'll be great. PowerAmp is great for me in certain cases. Made my cheap Samsung earbuds sound great once I tweaked the equalizer to my liking. Don't use it much anymore, and I got actual Headphones and use spotify.

Neutron has the best(and often unique) features concerning actual audio playback but how the fuck one can fuck up scrolling so bad. I tolerate the UI just because of volume normalization(it even takes the equalizer settings into account, to avoid clipping. It actually scans every song to compute the required gain) and noise shaped dithering. It also supports direct DSD playback via external DAC and shit ton of other stuff. The only streaming player worth using is SoundCloud, many artists release their demos there.

It could be anything from me not knowing how it works to your case where the entire environment is different. Writing the fourier transforms to make an equalizer is not easy. It also probably uses the NDK which itself is a huge pain in the ass. My guess is that there isn't enough time in the day for most developers to spend writing the complex code to allow users to change values to whatever they want. That's just my guess though.
The requests for options varies a lot depending on the app. The most common ones that I don't listen to are related to styling. I can't really say those are retarded because I like control of that too. I just don't want to implement it because it requires holding a lot of state.
