I use Arch on my laptop because I was tired of installing PPAs just to use modernish versions of certain software (Ansible, Docker, Vagrant, nginx, etc).
I use Ubuntu on servers because it has great compatibility with OpenStack and LTS.

And it's all fine because the programs that depend on specific architectures or specific versions of programs are compiled from source, so portage just links them with the version it knows it depends on.
