Why does /g/ hate Mint? I've been using Mint KDE for a few years and recently switched to Cinnamon. Is it because it's a babby's first Linux?
>>
It's because their website was compromised one time for a period of less than a day.
>>
Because g is poltards while Mint is made by a leftie.
>>
no e-peen growth by using mint so you gotta shit on it to impress anonymous people on 4chan
>>
>>54497608
Because there is no need for any downstream Ubuntu distros to exist, period. That means, elementary, mint, deepin, whatever. There is already wide selection of DEs you can chose from different spins or netinstall.
The further you get from upstream the more bugs you will get, the more you will wait for fixes and the shittier maintainers you will get (look memejaro or elementary)
>>
>>54497744
Yet, somehow Mint manages to be the most popular and problem free distro.
>>
>>54497634
There was Mint hate before that. Wasn't there?
>>54497645
I heil Hitler all the time and still like Mint.
>>54497680
Is gentoo the only one for the e-peen growth?
>>
>>54497774
It's actually neither but believe whatever you want. Distrowatch metrics are useless.
>>
>>54497774
>Yet, somehow Mint manages to be the most popular and problem free distro.
And the most backdoored one as well.

I used to recommend Mint to people who asked "i'm new what distro should I use".
But after their recent fuckup Mint maintainers proved how fucking incompetent they are.
I stopped.
Just use *buntu LTS.
It's the same shit anyways.
>>
>>54497774
>the most popular

don't be delusional
distrowatch only measures clicks on their website, Ubuntu is by far the most popular desktop distro

proof: https://stats.wikimedia.org/wikimedia/squids/SquidReportOperatingSystems.htm
>>
>>54497831
>I changed distro because of something that did not directly affect me.

Don't try to cover up your distro hopping.
>>
The feb 20 website hack is all the evidence you should need to never trust linux mint.
Sorry..... i meant never trust wordpress.

Deepin is based on Debian Sid
>>
The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring the popularity of Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website. They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions. They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch.com was accessed each day, nothing more.

>>
>>54497865
I've never actually used Mint in my entire life my friend.

I just stopped recommending it to people.
>>
Seriously.
Install ubuntu
Sudo apt install cinnamon
And it's literally mint without the update manager, but with less bugs and a larger userbase.
Sure, mint is very good, but they should just focus on the desktop environment, they don't need their own distro full of nonfree software
>>
What the functional difference between Mint and Debian?
>>54498036
How do I get rid of the tribal drum noises. I switched to Mint from Ubuntu years ago because of the niggery noises.
>>
>>54497608
/g/ doesn't like it because
a) no e-penis enlargement
b) easy to use. just werks.
c) it's Ubuntu done right and Ubuntu being babbys first linux it is bad (see a) and b))

No, because Ubuntu actually does bring something new to the table and is pretty much a distro on its own by this point. Mint is 99% Canonical work +1% of shitty hobbyist work done by Mint devs.

So?
Linus Torvalds uses Fedora too.

Actually, all options considered, Ubuntu and Fedora are probably the only two that I would ever call proper and stable distros. I guess it's mostly because Fedora is to Redhat what Ubuntu is to Debian. Too bad openSUSE doesn't have that kind of foothold.

I haven't checked out Mint in years. What does a freshly installed desktop look like? Are they still doing the releases are girls' names thing?

Because it's an insecure and outdated Ubuntu that performs worse and isn't easier to use.

Also website isn't secure, and has 7 ads. It's a money making scheme, by being a separate distro instead of an Ubuntu spin.

>I'm too dumb to install an adblocker but this site in particular is bad because it shows ads to generate revenue

And no, not a Mint fanboy. Being a Linux noob I just went with the distro I found the comfiest some months ago which was Mint with Cinnamon.
>>
>>54497841
Mint uses Ubuntu's user-agent, your argument is invalid.
