>- 7-Zip now can extract multivolume ZIP archives (z01, z02, ... , zip).
>- Some bugs were fixed.
>>
>>54492305
I thought you were shitposting but that's literally the change log. 2016 and they are only now supporting multivolume zips
>>
Didn't it before? I've used it to unzip multiple files from the command line.
>>
>>54492324
I didn't even realize there were multi-volume zip files. Most people just use rar or LZMA for that
>>
Why do I care?
>>

How often does /g/ uzip files?
>>
*7zips dick*
>>
>>54492305
Why the need for that? Just cat them together, that's what cat was designed for.
>>
So he finally made a new stable version.
>>
>>54492278
meanwhile extra/p7zip stuck at 9.38.1-4
>>
>>54492324
Keyword here is zips.
>>
>>54492324
>There are two versions of multivolume feature:
>1) a.zip.001, a.zip.002 - it's common simple split scheme that can be used for any file. For example, we can use it for pdf: a.pdf.001, a.pdf.002, ...
>2) a.z01, a.z02, a.zip - it's multivolume scheme described in zip specification.

Also
>7-Zip uses YEAR.REVISION scheme for version numbers.
>>
Why is 7zip such shit
>>
>>54498360
How so?
>>
>>54498360
Because you're a retard.
>>
I have literally never seen a multivolume ZIP archive before.
>>
>>54492506
not for winbabies
>>
>>54496135
Underrated toast.
>>
omg yessssss i hope it unzips things still yesssss
>>
>>54493089

Most people can afford media big enough to fit everything in one ZIP.
>>
>>54498590
it did
>>
>>54492278
I'd just like to interject for a moment.
GNU/7zip.
>>
>>54492278

Did they finally fixed the temp folder allocation And the single file extraction?
If not, winzip and winrar are still better.
>>
>>54492278
>not using bandizip
>>
>>54498921
this

the 7zip dev cant even be bothered to implement a simple automatic subfolder creation on extraction
>>
>>54494017
At home: at least once a month. Every month something comes out that I wanna grab, and it's in zip format, even though it doesn't compress very well.

At work: all the damn time. 7-Zip rules.

>License : Freeware (No Adware/Spyware/Virus)

kek
>>
>>54498534
I've seen a few of them around. Very rare occurrence.

I created a multi-volume 7z archive at work to transfer to machines that need it. Went multi-volume because some of their internet connections suck, and I don't wanna be assed retransmitting the ENTIRE zip from scratch (retrying from where it left off doesn't always work), so now I can just retry from the last 10MB or so.
>>
>>54499112
Right-click > 7-Zip > Extract to "foldername\" doesn't do it for you?
>>
>>54499112
You are literally an idiot.
>>
>>54492278
Can I finally see a zipped image directly in windows photo viewer like a normal Christ with this new version?
>>
>>54499725
Windows Photo Viewer is the one with the problem, not 7-Zip.
>>
>>54498691
Is the toast with the most
>>
Peazip is where it's at mang.

>>
http://blog.talosintel.com/2016/05/multiple-7-zip-vulnerabilities.html
>>
>>54498590
It did. Just start with the lowest numbered file (often z00) and it'll work. If you start randomly though (z05 or something) then it wouldn't work.
>>
>>54492324
Yeah because I have so many 1.38mb multivolume zips that need extracting.
>>
>>54498534
More common when people wanted to pirate shit and distribute via floppy disks.

Not really applicable to online stuff unless you were downloading from the shittiest server available without a download manager, just straight through the browser and no support for resume and error checking.
>>
9.20 still compresses better half of the time for me.
>>
>>54492278
Wow, a thread dedicated to a 7zip update! This sure needs to exist! Next time we can have a thread dedicated to the latest Windows Defender definitions update!
>>
>>54502452
7-Zip updates are very rare. It went for like 4 years without a new release. Even now the last update was about 6 months ago.
>>
>>54494017
Literally every day. Everything that is shared from one anon to another usually comes in a zip file.
>>
>>54502452
It's not like there's a 7zip general. It's just one thread that'll die in a day, does it really fluster you that much?
>>
>>54503132
He's probably an Arch user, so yeah

plz, you aren't fooling anyone with this type of "bait". Nothing (too much) wrong with Arch. If anything you arch haters are the real autists, getting angry over OSes others use.
>>
>>54503863
Stay buttmad Arch user kek
>>
>>54499725
What kind of Christ do you see it as now? One like this?
>>
>>54492278

9.20 master race
>>
Only pedos use archivers.
>>
7zip is the first program i download on a clean install, and has been for years.

*tip - use the file manager to look at your ~/Desktop or ~/Downloads folder and you'll see dot files to delete.

No, extract to subfolder is not the same and the autism of each of you is showing if you dont know what this feature means. Look at bandizip, they did it right

Yes, thank God it finally works.
That was a pain in the ass.

>>54499748
Nah, this regression was introduced because of some autist sperging out in the bug tracker wanting temp files erased immediately.
>>
>>54501166
this is why it was updated, and not one of you retards noticed it....
>>
Why use 7zip over WinRAR?
I always used the latter and it worked fine for me.
Are there any advantages?
Serious question, not trying to start wars here. Just never put much thought into unzipping files.
>>
>>54508231
Then why doesn't it mention those fixes in the changelog?
>>
>>54492278
Is this one bundled with ransomware?
>>
>>54508250
For one because winrar is commercial software that nags you to purchase it.
>>
Why doesn't 7zip have a *nix GUI version? Ark and File Roller are shit.
>>
>>54508355
Because no one has bothered to port it. You're welcome to do it yourself.
>>
>>54508363
I guess that's the beauty of open source. Shame everyone smart enough to do it wouldn't be bothered to since they're smart enough to have tar's man page memorized. Ugh. This is why people still use Windoze. Not that Windoze is a good OS, it just happens to have programs that are actually usable by retarded chimps aka your typical users, such as myself. Yes, I just called myself a retarded chimp. I am aware of that. I don't give a fuck.
