Probably drivers. If the benchmark is set to the 1440p preset, it auto sets the resolution to that. Since the drivers for pascal are in beta form right now, I'd wager its just the driver misreporting it.

A standard Fury is an even better deal if you manage to unlock it to any degree, mine was able to unlock 3840 shaders our of 4096 possible, and while OC'd, it either comes close to or matches Fury X benchmarks for any given review

I have two 980tis but I'll admit they dropped the ball with async on maxwell and pascal. I don't know why they didn't just implement it into their new architecture. Sure they would have been late, probably coming out around the same time as AMD but it would've provided competition.
