What is vanilla Debian like? I don't know many people who use it for desktops, and the ones I do know who use it use stretch. Any good for a standard desktop? I trust /g/'s (non-meme) answers more than most tech communities.

3. Security updates aren't even installed by default because the dumbass dev thinks that it would be too 'unstable'

I have used both for quite some time and prefer mate on mint because it's lighter and it has more options for settings at least when I was using it.
