Because each new Windows is including every single library from previous versions of Windows. They build it literally like a pile of shit: all new code is placed on top of an old and obsolete code, nothing is ever getting removed from the Windows - they just hide it.

Windows 7 only takes up 3.8GB total on my SSD, RAM around 350MB, and can cold boot around 10 seconds. Total clean install time is under 10 minutes. You do know you don't have to install all the bloat, right?
