Were ThinkPads truly tougher under IBM than Lenovo or is it just a nostalgic meme?
Older thinkpads have much more robust build quality, but so did everything back then
Cell phones, laptops, desktops, televisions, game consoles, everything was built to take more abuse
But everything also did a lot less. Less features packed into that indestructible shell

older IBM thinkpads (steel/plastic) might be "tougher" in the absolute, but the new Lenovo ones (carbon/plastic) are much lighter especially given the increase in component size, heat generation, etc. I would say we lost 10-20% toughness but added 50% ergonomics
