If disassemblers and reverse compilers became good enough that they could create full high level source code from a given binary executable, would this make the GPL obsolete?

No, retard. Learn the difference between free software and open source software, and understand the GPL's role as a weapon in the free software community

Decompiled CAN create high level source code from binaries (like c) but executables strip names and most symbols away from the binary. Decompilers are already as good as they're going to get.

How do symbol names affect anything in terms of software freedumbz? You can tell from the decompiled code whether it is installing rootkits, phoning home, harvesting user info, etc.

using them would become illegal immediately.

It would make proprietary software no longer secure by obscurity.
