100% FLs are blue. The trick to gaining buffer is to check the first four pages for blue text each day. Sometimes the blue text is added afterwards. To find a whole bunch of old FLs with lots of leechers sort by snatchers but I don't think this works as well as just jumping on the new FLs. Because the pinned FLs are seen by everyone it's the best source of buffer there is if you get on it early.
Someone probably has a script written in something as simple as autoit by now (or anything that can check pixel colour) but personally I don't think it's worth it because it doesn't matter whether or not you pick up some crusty old FL if no one else can find it on site. Apparently there's also two different types of FL (one where it's applied to that entire series) and one which is just a 'one off' but that's mentioned as a throw away line on the forums.
Furthermore make sure you're hitting the 14.0 old age bonus, 10.0 bad seeding bonus, 5.0 bonus for two-step. Find small episodes at about 10 months old with 0-3 leechers and you can hit both the old age and bad seeding bonus (2 birds with one stone saving space.) You can get the old episodes off public trackers, DDL sites or other trackers. (google the filename).
