Same here, OS X has steeply gone downhill the second Yosemite came out, it's only getting worse.
10.6 was the best version of OSX out, 10.8/10.9 came close.

This, now the FBI has changed strategies and really started to hurt Apple's "reputation" of security, with several agencies hacking iPhones 5S and newer.

It's really been hit after hit for Apple, the Indian Government is banning Apple's sales of refurbished phones, China has restricted sales of Apple devices and outright banned iCloud, iTunes and iBooks, key executives and investors of Apple leaving. Their stock prices have tanked massively after 1.5 years of constant decline and it's only going to get worse from now on.

A 1,1 (early 2006) mac mini, can run 1.7.5 when you put a core 2 duo in it, flash the firmware and have 2gb ram.

I also had to fuck around with my installer usb I made, and replace some strings and an installer package, but not everyone has to. But I needed to be able to run Java 8 on it, so I had to get 10.7 working

>>
>>54450277
$40 is pretty good, it's in good condition. It must either be the 867MHz or 1GHz model, unless you XPostFacto'ed Leopard onto it. And yeah, Leopard will be pretty painful due to processor bottleneck, a machine like that is much better with OS 9 and/or Tiger. Or you can fuck around with Debian or OpenBSD.
>>
>>54450359
Yeah, its the 550 with 512mb of ram. It seems like the seller just cloned the OS off a G5 onto it. I might just put leopard on my dual 450's 3rd hard drive for keks. There was a 1ghz on sale during the same time but i had already bid on this one.
>>
>>54450476
Oh wow, well you must have a lot of patience. If I were you I'd probably use it exclusively as a OS 9 machine or maybe chuck MorphOS on it, it's niche as fuck and doesn't have much software but it runs amazingly on G4s and is about the only OS on PPC that has somewhat of a future.
>>
>>54450557
Eh, its nowhere near my main machine, just something to mess around with while watching youtube. I definitely will put OS9 on it alongside tiger. MorphOS looks interesting but im of the mind that macs should run macos. I might install it but i probably wont.

Since updating my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013, Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Storage 500G) to El Capitan (now version 10.11.3), it crashes when I try to respond to or forward an email. This doesn't happen all the time but occurs randomly for no apparent reason. One it starts to happens, it continues until I either force quit Mail or, quite often, until I rebook my Mail. At times, I need to do this more than once before it behaves normally for a while and then the whole process starts all over again. This problem can recur several times daily and is a very major nuisance and time waster.
I have tried various suggestions I found online including deactivating each of my accounts and re-adding them one by one but to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so I'm running El Capitan. I need a printer / scanner. I bought a brand new one about a month ago. It didn't work. It wouldn't scan. Apparently it wasn't compatible. I took it back. For the last month or so, every time I see one at the store, I pull out my iPhone and google the printer name / model number with El Capitan, and the first 5 hits are forum messages about it not being compatible.

So, help me out here kids:

What Printer / Scanners are actually compatible with El Capitan? It must print in color and scan.
If there aren't any, then why the heck not, and is anyone doing anything at Apple to roll out an OS that actually works with simple peripherals??

There must be someone on these forums successfully running a printer/scanner on El Capitan without extortionist 3rd party software that only partially works.

I have a Mac Book Pro 15'' 2.3 GHz i7, 4GB Memory, 500 GB HD, iOS 10.11

I recently got a 17" iMac (late06/early07 intel model). Got OSX reinstalled and updated to 10.7.5 which is as high as it'll go.

I was considering upgrading the hard drive, and the 2gb's of ram, and MAYBE the CPU. I'm thinking if i open it up at all i would be re-doing some thermal paste anyways, so might as well upgrade the CPU if im pulling everything out. Would upgrading any of this stuff require me to do something absurd? Or is it all pretty much just plug and play? ONLY reason i ask is because its a Mac, and why the fuck wouldn't they have some kind of absurd shit for just upgrading something simple?

Also I'd like to dual boot with windows 7. Would all the various hardware work just fine? Mainly thinking of things like the WiFi driver, so i wouldn't need any additional wireless adapters to have it work. Mainly would want to do this because trying to run even the most simple games seem to have frame rate issues in OSX.

I installed 10.11.4 on March 24 (I believe), and since that day my iMac has been unstable. It reboots on it's own, like a kernel panic but never logging a kernel panic. This reboot doesn't seem to be triggered by software I run, as I've been removing things to try to isolate the problem.

Yesterday Apple Support had me reinstall the os via cmd-r boot option, and that did not solve the problem... it just ate up an hour of my time.

Any suggestions? My iMac went from super stable to super unstable; it's worse than my Windows gaming pc for stability now.

I updated to El Capitan today.

However, after doing this, my internet plugin stick is no longer working.

To explain further:

1. I plug in stick
2. CD symbol shows up (underneath says "AIS_Aircard")
3. I double click AIS_Aircard
4. I proceed on steps to install (prior to el capitan, a small screen would show up, and I would simply click connect and be connected to internet...however this wasn't possible since installing el capitan)
5. "The Installation failed. The installer could not install software. The Installer could not install the software because there was no software to install"

6. I uninstallled AIS Aircard

7. I attempted to install AIS Aircard again
8. "The Installation failed. The installer could not install software. The Installer could not install the software because there was no software to install"

Anyone have tips or ideas to help?

I purchased a MacBook Pro Retina Early 2015 Model and is currently running OS X 10.11.4. From day one, there has been an inconsistent issue where my whole Mac would freeze as soon as I try playing a video. This did not occur consistently so I thought it had been a small issue which would have been fixed with an update. Soon enough, earlier today, the same thing happened, whole Mac froze (trackpad no longer clicks, keyboard is unresponsive and screen is frozen) when I tried to play a video on FaceBook. I've tried disabling flash, use Chrome or other browsers, did a fresh install of OS X El Capitan as well as OS X Yosemite, but that did nothing.

Any possible suggestions as to what is going on? I was going to take it in for inspection under warranty but want to make sure before doing so as it is so inconsistent and happens randomly.

OS X is not. You can run any software you want any time you want. If you get a warning head to preferences and change the security level. (Or just right click / open for one app.) But don't cry like a bitch if you run an unsigned app from muhFileSharing.com that's a trojan.

OS X is locked down in terms of hardware because Apple's money is made on hardware. That said, they haven't done anything really to stop Hackintosh.

Since update, the keyboard/typing occasionally stalls and shows me alternate letter options, and there is a kind of fluttering key sound, like someone is pressing my keys. The only fix is to restart. Happened in Preview and in Firefox and in LibreOffice. Can't figure out a cause, but it works for a day, then starts up again. I restart because I fear a kernel panic (paranoid).

My old Macbook pro needed to upgrade to run a certain software application so I clicked on upgrade to El Capitan. It went through the entire process but failed to upgrade. Now my ONLY option is to restart or shut down. Either choice I make it will begin the entire process of upgrading again (failing each time) I seem to have lost all of my data and my old operating system. Is there any way to 'revert' back to the old system the way it was before the upgrade? Or do I just throw the $1200 computer in the trash?

>muh pr stunt meme!

Apple HAS to comply with a lawful warrant for information in their custody. They can decrypt anything on iCloud, including hardware passwords that you've elected to let them store in case you forget.

But Apple is also the only major valley firm I know of who is actively trying to design hardware such that if you don't use the cloud then they physically cannot comply with a warrant. Secure Enclave is basically a gigantic "fuck you" to the three letter agencies. And I guarantee the next iteration will plug the holes revealed by the trial.

So don't tell me it's a "pr stunt." Even if it's for cash and prizes in the marketplace, Apple is the only one doing something about it.

I have USB 3.0 devices that first register as 3.0 when the computer boots, then shortly after that, they are downgraded to 2.0 ports. I understand that this is from the code changes Apple made in El Capitan.

I updated my MacbookPro Retina 15' Early 2013 when El capitan was launched, the boot up time was as always (13 sec,15..)... Months later, I had some kernel panics due to VMWare Fusion, so, I had to come back to Yosemite because I needed to use this virtualization software and I couldn't wait for solving El capitan's bugs. The boot up time was as always again. Now, I want to install El Capitan, but I don't want an operating system that takes to start the double as the previous version, I think is a bug from El capitan 10.11.4, but it's so hilarious. I 've done clean install , erasing the disk, and install from an USB, and I always have the same problem, finally, I have to install Yosemite( the boot up time is as always(13 secs)).

Does anyone have an idea?

My computer (a late 2015, Retina 5K, 27-inch iMac running OS 10.11.3) crashes daily, sometimes twice a day. I've contacted Apple Care and they've run diagnostics with no apparent issues. The only solution is to bring in the computer, which is extremely inconvenient and something I'd rather do as a last resort (it will mean stopping my production for a day or two, likely reinstalling 25+ software applications, losing me quite a bit of billing time, etc.).

Can't really tech support from /g/. But two things:

* I had a friend whose MBP would not update. After messing with it and trying some GoogleFu I discovered that memory compression and page were off. I don't know why because you have to get into Terminal and sudo to turn them off, and he would have never done that.

Turning them back on OR just resetting the PRAM fixed the issue and the update completed.

* If it's a non-retina pro a knowledgeable user with another Mac could easily pull your drive, plug it into their Mac, save your data, and install an older OS.

The NSA tapped Apple's leased Internet lines. No evidence Apple knew or allowed it. The NSA typically did this shit via the major telcoms. Google in particular was fucking furious and started using SSL encryption for all data sent over 3rd party leased lines.

Even if it turns out Apple did cooperate, they would have had to if handed one of the "muh national security!" letters from our fucked up government.

Hello to everyone, to start i apologize in advance for my english since it's not my first language.
I own a new MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early 2015.
Since the last 5 months i had the OSX El Capitan 11.10.3 that came out of the box with the computer. And it worked always perfectly.
In the latest 5 months the mac never gave me any kind of issues!!
I use mostly the computer for listen music, browsing, chatting or writing texts

Unfortunately i have to say, a couple of days ago on the App Store i noticed a new Update of OSX the "11.10.4" version and i decided to upgrade.
Well after a couple of hours i upgraded to the newer version my mac started to have several issues.
First of all the Fans. Without any kind of reason after 1 or 2 hour after the upgrade (i was simply browsing the web with 2 pages open on safari in specific facebook and youtube)
The fans started to run really crazy and loud for 3/4 minutes... so loud that i thought that the computer was exploding and i closed all the application and waited for the fans to runs slow. To the touch the aluminum of the mac was not hot... Ambient temperature.

Last but absolutely not least.... FREEZING!!! Strangely also this problem showed up the same day i upgraded my macbook pro to the 11.10.4 version and this happened to me about 5 times right now!! and it's becoming a nightmare!!
While using the computer the mac just simply freeze the screen (mouse is stuck without the wheel is totally freeze) and after 4/5 seconds that the screen is stuck also the haptic vibration of the trackpad stops work. I tried to leave the mac like this for about 10 minute but nothing... only an hard reset can solve this problem..
Last time happened just an hour ago circa and this is why i'm here..

I already tried Apple Diagnostic but it's completely fine showing a message "No Issues Found" ADP000.
I'm not a technician i don't know what kind of problem is...

Anyone of you is experiencing this problems on their macs?

Upgraded to OS El Capitan this morning on my daughter's personal laptop as she backed up her school (apple) laptop to it as her school laptop was having issues. Had to upgrade to the latest OS as her school laptop was on the latest OS and her school docs would not open on her personal laptop (she was on Mavericks). Ran into admin password issues so connected with Chat and got that fixed but by fixing that they then created lots of keychain issues. I was directed to a support document, which did nothing. I was told to finish the upgrade to El Capitan and maybe that would fix the keychain issues - WRONG! Now it is a 50/50 chance that when I get to the sign in page - I will either get stopped there with the keychain error pop ups or it will allow me to the desktop view. I'm beyond disgusted at this point as what should have been simple has become a living nightmare.

I have checked thru the archives and found lots of keychain items but nothing seems to fix mine.
I'm getting the following:
* talagent wants to use the "Local Items" keychain.
my admin and my signon passwords do not work
so I press cancel, then I get
* Messages Agent wants to use the "local items" keychain
my admin and signon passwords do not work
so I press cancel, then I get
* CommCenter wants to use the "local items" keychain
my admin and signon passwords do not work
so I press cancel, then just the continual Messages Agent pop up error

Please help

I got a brand new macbook in 2015 & I loved it. The other day I downloanded El Capitan. I figured why would apple make software that would turn there product to **** so I downloaded. 2. I start with 32GB after a restart, but after an hour or so, I get messages that say I only have a few MB of space left and that the drive is running out of room. I delete some things to clear room, and it fills right back up. When I restart, it goes right back to the 32GB.
