How do you use this in a sane way?
Do you just randomly pick domains until the site works?(If it's broken)
>>

The UI of NoScript makes things unnecessarily hard. With uMatrix it's far easier to see what you're blocking or allowing.

Eventually you can recognize which domains you'll need to allow for any given site. Usually it's just the site itself and the site's CDN. Sites that need much more than that are almost universally fucking awful anyway.
>>
how the fuck do people use https everywhere. it breaks so many sites for me
>>

>All that bloat being blocked
Feels gud.

News sites are especially bad about this.

>>54424655
Same here. I stopped using it completely awhile ago.
>>
>all of these umatrix shills

NoScript is fucking incredible. It should be obvious what the core domains are to enable, and if not, fuck that site.
>>
>>54424567
Use uMatrix.
Only kekolds still use noscript.
>>
You either go through an entire effort to make it work with your occasional website visits. Or you never set it to work
>>
>>54424684
>NoScript is fucking incredible

It's inferior to uMatrix in every way. I bet you've never even used uMatrix, because muh baby duck syndrome.
>>
>>54424655
Any examples? Because I'm using https everywhere since I don't know, but it feels like it's been in my browser forever, and I've never experienced any kind of issues because of it.
>>
>>54424655
>it breaks so many sites for me
Like what? Never happened to me.
>>
>>54424567
>How do you use this in a sane way?
Why do you have it installed? If you don't want to block scripts then uninstall it. No fuss.

If you want to block all scripts on a page then most web browsers have an option to do that. But it is an all or nothing choice.

Addons like NoScript and uBlock (or is it uMatrix the functionality seems to overlap) allow you to select which scripts you want to run on a page.

Also with NoScript you can completely disable the script blocking functionality and it will still offer protection against other nasty things sites do.

>Do you just randomly pick domains until the site works?(If it's broken)
1) You always select the main site. So for 4chan you would select: 4chan.org

2) If the site uses a content delivery network (CDN) then you will want to select that as well. In my experience the domain will be the main domain name plus the word 'cdn'. For 4chan you would enable: 4cdn.org

Normally that is it. Some sites will require more (like if they are providing a video player). If you tend to visit the same sites then the pain only lasts a couple of days as you set up your whitelist. With experience you get better at identifying what needs to run.

On shady sites, you will see a long list of shit (like on sport streaming sites for example).

I have been using NoScript for years now. I like it. It does the job that I need it to do. I have heard a lot of good things about uBlock/uMatrix. And competition is really good for any piece of software. But in either case you will need some experience in seeing what normally get whitelisted.

Good luck.

I have never had it break any sites for me.

Perhaps you block all HTTP requests? That is too extreme of a setting for me personally.

Mah nuggah

It just takes patience and commitment. I can browse the absolute shadiest sites with impunity. I have no fear of the net

Been using it since 2010 and have a great whitelist. Will only use uMatrix if I can transfer said list over from NoScript

News websites and the like are complete shit and a pain in the ass to figure out sometimes. You should take some time to mark certain domains as untrusted which will cut down on shit to choose from. You'll have to spend some time doing that, and you'll recognize cdns, and other scripts to allow, etc.
>>54424627
With umatrix you'd still have to allow the same domains on each website you visit. With noscript all you have to do is allow scripts once and they work on every website. I don't think OP wants to go through that much trouble.
>>
>>54425476
Adblockers and umatrix's hosts files can handle that.
>>
If the site has just a few scripts, you guess until you get it. If it's one of those pieces of shit with 100+ scripts, you close the page and never open a site from that domain again.

>>
>>54426472
>If it wasn't the former what exactly are you using it for?
To conserve resources. On my desktop it can handle JS intensive pages but my browser can't, and on netbooks and UMPCs it's the only way you can really still browse the web.
>>
>>54426522
>To conserve resources.

First look for cdn, media, resource, etc. and anything that looks like it might be connected to the domain you're at. Like 4chins.tv or media.chineseniggers on 4chan. If it doesn't work you might as well stop wasting time on the site.

but if you couldn't figure this out on your own then you probably shouldn't be using the internet.

Javascript is what made Linux available for the desktop.
Most linux desktop apps are crap, but the ability to browse functional websites just like on Windows is what made people switch. If you turn javascript off, you essentially turn most of the internet off at this point.

dnt: 1

>>
>>54429398
yes. you can block domains on a global basis, or a per site basis. it's super easy.

example you can allow twitter.com resources only on twitter.com.
>>
>>54429398
Yes.

>>54429402
Because is up to the server to respect that request, there's no obligation for them to do it. They can track you just because you are the only one sending that request.

>thinking turning off DNT Is going to help disable tracking

your browser has a footprint that's in all likelihood super unique. if you allow any javascript all, be it an inline script or a 3rd party one, you can easily be tracked. just saying.

>inb4 uBlock Origin can block html canvas footprinting, monitor resolution and dpi footprinting, etc, etc

nah, it can't.

You can also use umatrix. That said, pick up ublock and disconnect for a couple layers of support and information. Don't forget to use HTTPS everywhere too. Oh and decentraleyes helps with cdns.

With noscript or umatrix , start by allowing the domains you know are necessary, like the site itself. Then you look at CDNs and whatnot hosting the content and allow them. If things still don't work look for hosting related and even social networking to a point. Ublock and disconnect will protect you even if you allow in noscript and disconnect will even break it down for you which are ads, trackers etc...

This will help you figure out what the issue is and the minimum on each page to enable for stiluff you need

You should probably clean your list from time to time anyway.

Moving to uMatrix isn't worse than just opening your most frequently visited websites, fix the rules and go on with your day.

Still use NoScript in passive mode for the XSS protection though.

t. used to have like 2-3k rules in NoScript

dude, just use uBlock Origin. It does everything they do and better. No need to get multiple addons to perform the job of one.

People who use uMatrix and NoScript are people that have been using them for 4-5 years and don't realize there are more modern, better options available.
