>This does mean that built-in analog (VGA capabilities) are dead though, as NVIDIA has switched from DVI-I to the pure-digital DVI-D.

RIP IN PIECE VGA MONITORS
>>
This has been on the cards for a long time.

http://news.softpedia.com/news/VGA-to-Be-Killed-by-2015-Intel-AMD-Display-Manufacturers-Plan-171457.shtml

digital to vga converters still exist if for some reason you want to use a new card on an ancient monitor.

>implying VGA adapters are not invented.
>>
>>54423445
VGA adapters don't work if DVI-A mode is not present in the DVI source.
>>
>>54423312
when will dvi just die? HDMI and displayport are vastly superior
>>
>>54423503
Yeah, I wished Nvidia would get rid of DVI, it's limited to 1440P/1600P res and just blocks the exhaust output of hot air.
>>
>>54423498
Some active ones do, you can even convert HDMI to VGA.
>>
>>54423519
Yep. Would make more sense just to include a DP to DVI adapter at this point.
>>
>tfw still on VGA
>>
>>54423503
When the card has >= 2 displayports and DVI, I don't mind.

But it fucking boggles my mind when they release medium tier cards with only 1x DP, 1x DVI and maybe 1x HDMI.

Especially so when you consider the customer group for dedicated graphics card; a lot have 2 or more monitors. Mixing inputs sucks.

hdmi to vga adaptors from aliexpress cost 4$ and work flawlessly m8
>>
>>54423587
At least you can daisychain displayport
>>
>>54423503
HDMI is trash
>>
>>54423831
Still better than fucking DVI though, those plugs are awful
>>
Does it support Displayport 1.3/1.4 yet? Seriously Nvidia, it's fucking embarrassing, keep your shit up to the latest spec please.
>>
>>54423690
If the analog signal isn't there they don't work.
>>
>>54423831
You need it for TVs and projectors and shit though.
>>
>>54423901
Yuup.
http://www.techpowerup.com/222294/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-specifications-released
Don't those versions of DP require FreeSync support or something though?
>>
>>54423901
You are a FAGGOT that can't read the specs on the website

But I still love my crt :(

How? What is wrong with the dvi ports?
And don't you fucking dare say the size.

Oh good, I might actually buy one then. I refused to touch the 900 series because they all use Displayport 1.2. Guess I'll wait for a sale or something.
>>
>>54424008
>And don't you fucking dare say the size.
I'm going to fucking dare say the size and you can't stop me
Also having to fucking screw them in
>>
>>54424039
Connectors that don't click in are the absolute worst.
>>
>>54424008
they're just redundant, taking up space for nothing. HDMI and displayport are both fully compatible with DVI using adapters, and pretty much any monitor made in the last 5 years has at least one of those ports.
>>
>>54423519
Call Linus.
>>
>>54424028
It's not the same when you need an active converter.

>>54424052
That's a pretty good argument actually.

>>54424039
I've never screwed mine in, they don't fall out easily unless you yank on them.
>>
>>54424028
Enjoy your input lag.
>>
>>54424315
I don't see how shifting the VGA signal encoding hardware externally is going to make much difference
