What does /g/ think about used tech?
I just bought a T510 for 100 bucks and an Macbook Pro late 2008 for 150 bucks. They still are top notch if you now how to upgrade the parts and tread them well.
I also got a Galaxy S4 for 50 bucks ( what a steal) it was in top notch condition I just rooted and installed Cyanogen on it and it works perfectly fine.
Do you personally buy used tech? Or are you afraid of broken shit?
What used tech did you buy in the last months?
I buy used tech from places that have 30+ day returns and what not.

used, a.k.a. refurbished is always my first look before I go for anything new, as you can usually get better specs at a lower price
Only very rarely for personal use, like if I just want to play around. More often it's that I know someone who's tight on money and I'll offer them my time to make the most of a very old and very cheap thing that they need.

Not saying not to buy used/refurb, but there is such a thing as being too much of a cheapskate. The batteries on those laptops are shot by now by the very nature of the chemical breakdown due to age, and the processors are just barely enough to handle web browsing.
You would've been better off spending that $250 combined on a better 3rd gen i7 laptop.

Been out of the loop for a while but I thought there wasn't a way to unlock the bootloader on the GS4. I bought a used LGG3 instead.
Also got a Thinkpad X60 and flashed LibreBoot for memes. Sony BVM for old games.

I regularly hit 100+ tabs on a Core2 Duo machine. Also let's keep in mind that most people don't use 20+ tabs. Hell I regularly browse the web with a PowerPC G4, a Core Solo, and an Atom N270.

7 months ago i got a near maxed out t420 (no dgpu) for $175.
Bought a TiBook a few weeks ago for nostalgia shit, case only has a few scratches and it was only $40. Completely unusable for web stuff, but a fun little machine nonetheless.

Everything I DD is used, new shit is only really good for the warranty and I don't really care about imperceptible 5% incremental performance gains.

I bought a used T420. Put my old SSD into it, moved the HDD to a drive caddy, installed a USB 3.0 card, upgraded it to 8GB RAM, and just yesterday put in an i7-2820QM. Oh, and a new keyboard I got off Ebay for $30. I probably have $450 into it, and it's vastly better than the last piece of shit laptop I bought.
I'm currently looking at used Toyota Land Cruisers. FJ40's, which are one of the best looking vehicles ever built, and FJ80's, which we all thought were soccer mom SUVs, but it turns out they're actually likely some of the best-engineered and most rugged vehicles ever put on the road. Fuel consumption is terrible (11/14 mpg if you're a conservative driver), but whatevs, they're amazing rigs.
Used laptops, CPUs, and memory are all fine in my book. I wouldn't buy used storage or GPUs though. Too risky to buy without knowing what sort of abuse the previous owner put them through.
