From a technical standpoint, windows 2000 was the first time microsoft showed signs of making a decent operating system that didn't subscribe to the artificial server OS/desktop OS dichotomy, and then they went off road and kept dumbing it down and crippling the API for non-server users because false choices (pro edition, pleb edition) make more money, like selling the same car with two different programs on the ECU and a spoiler bolted on.

No, back then the NT line was for servers and enterprise desktops, DOS line was for consumer.
