This benchmarks show the 1080 is almost 20% faster than the GTX980 Ti though.

its even faster than your average GTX 980Ti Overclock of 1500/4000.

Could the 1080 the first card to hit 2.0Ghz?
It boosting to 1800mhz out of the boost and this is a reference card, aftermarket cards should at least be able to get 500mhz more out of this.

You people are retarded, business as usual.

The flagship of Nvidia is the GTX980Ti and it will stay the flagship.

Same with the Furies for AMD.

And fucking no, the R480X won't have performance close to the R9 390X.

If you'd care to look at the benchmarks instead of just reading the caption, you would see it is anything but close.

You guys must be all underage faggots.

can the 1080 even do DX12 yet?

why is the 290x outperforming the 980ti in dx12 benchmarks. this should be impossible
the 980ti originally cost $900
>>
>>54392747

fuckin this
>>
>>54392550
Currently with my 390x I can't hit over 30fps on Arma 3 at 1440p, I get 8fps at 4k. I'd like to one day soon hit 60fps at 4K, because it's fucking beautiful. That's why.
>>
>>54393822
>>54393784
This is worrying, AMD has been steadily improving the IPC of their GPU while Nvidia is almost running at twice the clockspeed.
>>
There is a rumor that Polaris is hotclocked, anyone know anything?
>>
>AMDtards think AMD will deliver,....yes they deliver, just like how they delivered with those Fiji cards :^)

Polaris 11/10 is aimed at the lowend/midrange market, confirmed by AMD.

And the performance is likewise. The R9 490X will replace the 390X.
The R9 480X will replace the R9 380X with a performance boost of about 15%.
Nothing close to a R9 390X.

You people are guilty as fuck.
>>
>>54393938
Thanks for posting evidence.
>>
That's because the 1080 will be a mid range card. How have you retards not caught on to NVIDIA's tricks by now?
>>
The 1080 is meant to replace the 980 though.

You will see a premium card meant to replace the 980ti later.
>>
>>54393841
Because retarded developers.

Maxwell has more DX12 features than AMD, yet AMD marketing managed to trick people into believe async was the only DX12 feature.

async isn't even useful for Maxwell as Maxwell schedule already makes sure they GPU never enters an idle state or tries to avoid it as much as possible, unlike AMD hardware which expends most of the time waiting for instructions being underutilized.
async makes sure those extra 2 GFLOPS AMD GPU's usually have over their Nvidia counterpart cards finally get utilized.

Forcing async on maxwell cards is just trying to override the native schedule which is more efficient than anything a game developer could ever come to with async and only causes worse performance.
This is something you can see with Nvidia's near zero driver overhead OpenGL applications, it's wonderful and hopefully Nvidia will push for Vulka instead of DX12.
>>
>>54393802

You're right, the 480x won't have performance close to the 390x, the 480 will have performance close to the 390x, which will cost somewhere in the ballpark of $200

No, I just know that what you said is complete bullshit. The maxwell scheduler is a software one, thus using the term native makes zero sense.

Plus the major reason why maxwell sucks balls at async compute is because it requires a context switch - something that requires a pipeline flush on Nvidia hardware but not on GCN.

Wonder if they will eventually fix this. But making the driver report 3,5GB would be fully admiting that the card is flawed... And considering the huge success of the 970 I am quite sure nvidia wont dump it right away when the new gen hits.

most of the time drivers do that
I set GTAV to the limit, so it reported that it's going to use ~4080MB VRAM, while afterburner reported something around 3500-3550. After a while it shat itself to 12 fps when vram hit 3700MB. alttabing off and on fixed it.
>>
>>54395221
Have they not fixed it? I'm sure there were huge issues with the memory allocation that were fixed in a driver update. I'm asking because I'm thinking of buying one of these pieces of shit as they go cheap.

You also have "the right" to use 4k as well, doesn't mean you should. And for the record, I kept driving for over 4 minutes and no stutter.

that's what they say about using more than 3.5GB of vram.
Game doesn't shit itself because it can't handle loading assets. It goes to 12fps when vram is at 3700 or 3800. I can leave it like that for many minutes and it won't get any higher.
That vram is faulty and you can't deny that.
>>
>>54396085
You SHOULD expect a massive performance loss because msaa 8x is literally a massive hog that is akin to fucking 4k.
>>
>>54396108
You do know that most of the vram gta uses is for caching, right? What you listed isn't even what exceding the vram does anyway. You people don't even know how this issue affects anything. The card can use it's full 4 gb of vram 95% of the time. The only time any issues will arise is when the resources in the last 0.5gb segment are fully remapped, which very few games do. It would be like a game having a textures and resources for dry terrain which suddenly change to wet resources and textures instantaneously. The last segment of vram will be slow when doing this conversion which can potentially cause slight lag and micro stutter.

I don't have this issue.

I think you've got a hardware problem there, probably PSU or CPU.
>>
>>54398048
the only hardware problem is the gtx shitting itself
when you change settins and apply the change, so it reinitializes, it fixes itself
i.e. reflections from 8x to 2x, apply, then back from 2x to 8x, apply, and you get normal framerate instead of that bugged 17fps, and vram drops also

I don't have any other games that push vram near 4GB, so I can't test it more. And I don't feel like installing 20 dragon dick texture mods for skyrim.
>>
>>54398100
nah m8, you've got yourself a broken PC.
You're the only one with this issue, PSU isn't supplying enough power to the card, most likely or just a hardware failure.

And for games that push to 4GB of vram, Shadow of Mordor and Watchdogs are the games that I've seen fill the 4GB completely, no issues whatsoever.

witcher 3 runs smoothly at full power, when card draws around 105-108% of tdp after oc and it doesn't get these shitty fps drops
yet when it goes into gimped 0.5GB of vram in gtav, it gets a massive fps drop

Different games and features will use different parts of the hardware on the GPU requiring more or less power depending on which piece hardware is being used.

TDP means jackshit , I have my card modded to 330watts, yet I've seen it hit GPU usage at 99% with only barely going above 50% power usage, sometimes going over 70% power usage while not even reaching 99% GPU usage.

I realize that. Memory controller load, fb load and other things. Even fans running at 100% speed draw 3% of tdp on msi card.
But still, even in gta, being in exactly the same spot with exactly the same settings gives different results based on vram usage. Is it because of how gtav manages vram? Maybe. Maybe it tries to load/save to that gimped part, so it goes to shit. Simple way to reproduce that is to die. When you respawn at hospital, it loads surrounding assets without flushing previous ones. High usage, low framerate.

I managed to bump vram to 3700+MB while flying around in space enine and it didn't affect performance, but that game isn't gpu intensive, so yeah.

are you really this stupid? seriously you can't be this stupid. you don't actively try to make the game run like shit just to make it run past 3.5gb vram. it doesn't matter if the game runs past 3.5gb in a non gpu intensive game. that's not the issue here. the issue is strictly about potential issues arising from going over that amount of vram only. the game being intensive or not should have absolutely no effect on your judgement of the vram usage. i can't believe you'd call the card going over 3.5gb vram in a non gpu intensive game a irrelevant benchmark. you literally just proved yourself that it isn't an issue but you're discarding that because the "game isn't gpu intensive".
