>used 6 core Sandy Bridge Xeon
>new 4 core i7-6700K
Can the Sandy Vagina hold up against the Skymeme in DX12?
>>54384713
Yes, now fuck off.
12 slightly weaker threads will destroy 8 barely stronger ones. Unless you can't oc the zeon
>>54385088
>Unless you can't oc the zeon
You cant
People have already tried.
You CAN buy unlocked versions but they are rare
>>54385088
But the 6700k can be overclocked to at least 4.8 GHz, but the Sandy Xeon E5s won't go over 3.6 GHz. And Skylake is at least 25% stronger per core than Sandy Bridge, and multithreaded performance is about 30% better than Sandy Bridge.
>>54386022
Then clearly 6700k is the winner

>falling for the skymeme
>wanting intel(r) bendable CPUs
>not buying a dirt cheap sandy vagina literally no reason to upgrade 2500k, and eventually upgrading to a 2600k.
>>54386071
>not having a 2600k
>>54386071
>>54386092
I was talking about a i7 3960X or equivalent 6 core Xeon E5s.
I have no idea why used Ivy Bridge Xeons are still so expensive
>>54386071
You can get like a 2600 cpu mark single threaded with a spylake i5 and 8k multi. Whats not to like?
>>54384713
>Not outgrowing the overclocking meme
>Buying an unlocked CPU with an integrated iGPU that does nothing but unnecessarily draw energy and produce heat
If you actually plan to game with an i5-6600 or an i7-6700 alone, it is a waste of money to upgrade to skylake over Haswell. Go and buy a Xeon e3-1231v3 or similar, or save up like an adult and get the processor you think you can cheat to achieve by overcucking.
>>54386469
Why would you ever consider that in the first place? You act like everyone is dumb enough to consider upgrading every generation. Overclocking is not a meme, I don't know what you are going on about, but hey whatever makes you feel superior.
Just picked up a 2500k + board for 50+shipping, feels good
>>54387053
wow that's awesome. I had to pay $200 each back in the day. Still kicks ass every day.
>>54387832
I spent a hundred aud on an i7 870 + mobo 3 years ago.
Really happy with it, at 4.2ghz it rapes anything else in that price range even now
>>54387880
Are you running 1366?
The performance hit I took after I could no longer source 1366 boards for a decent price was shitty and I had to "upgrade" to ivy bridge
Yeah, a friend recently upgraded and gave me a deal i couldn't refuse. Interestingly enough I had been handed an i5 750 and a nice board by a coworker. Currently running that system at 3.5ghz and it handles everything fairly well. Upgrading to the 2500k after I get a case. Still rocking an Antec 300.
>>54387901
>I could no longer source 1366 boards for a decent price
Why is this? I thought there would be a lot more used 1366 motherboards hitting the market after all these years.
>>54388152
Because hex-core LGA 1366 chips are dirt cheap, and they overclock easily to 4.5ghz or more.
>>54385203
>cant OC a xeon
you can overclock 16xx models (up to v3 I think, Intel may have put a stop to it with broadwell) just the same as k series procs. Put them in a non-server 2011 board and the multis should be fully accessible.

I7 870 is 1156 mate.
