No they won't. The CV2 is going to feature a 150 degree FOV and we know HTC won't be trying to win the budget war, simply because there's no way they could. Assuming they tried Oculus would just blow them the fuck out with the same thing but cheaper.

Unless you're talking about buying one used, in which case I'd say $400 is more reasonable.

I was planning to buy HTC Vive, but I'm concerned about privacy. Obviously the Oculus is Facebook VR, hence no privacy. But what about the Vive? Can it be used offline? Do you have to tie your usage to a Steam like account?
>>
Because I live at home and I don't want my mom finding me binging on porn
>>
>>54383081
Have used it with no internet, just goes through steam offline mode I guess, still probably storing the offline data to send later.

After using on, the only thing I'm looking forward too in it are 3d space bullet hell games after trying the valve arcade one. Whilst playing chef simulater is hilarious once, there's no action titles to keep my interest.
>>
>>54383081
While not tied to your Steam account you do need Steam to use it. So basically Valve will know which account uses SteamVR, along with which Steam games you play with. However I'm not sure if they track non-Steam games like those Japanese VR porn games everyone with a VR headset is going to try at some point in there life.
>>
>>54383078
Wearality already made some. It's happening.
>>
>>54381219
Mostly because of the price (€850 after Eyrope cuck taxes) and how game developers are still figuring out how to utilise VR properly. So for now I'll just stick to playing games on my 3D TV.

I'm going to get either an oculus or a vive, I'm just waiting to see which one comes out on top. Also like most people I don't have enough money yet. I originally wasn't going to buy a first first gen VR set but the thing that sold me was the possibility of using something like a gopro vr to film myself surfing and then use a vr set to pretty much put myself back on the same wave again later at home. So I don't really want to wait until it's further refined.
>>

>>
>>54383696
Although I'm probably building it up in my head to be better than it really is since my head will be in a fixed position and I won't be able to interact with the video at all. Anyway I've been following this shit for 3 years now so I'm getting one regardless, I can't wait much longer.
>>
Does it still come with an HTC 10?

Basically free then.
>>
After using the dk2 and a vive dev unit I felt the vive had the better experience.

The full room chaperone system combined with the controllers felt fun to play with. Really felt like I was a part of the experience rather than just observing it.
>>
>>54384499
Too bad Oculus is trying damn hard to make it so Vive doesn't work on the other VR games.
Because the Vive is a better unit on all sides.

Comes with good controllers vs shitbox controller
>>
>>54381219
But mine just arrived today..still smelling the packaging currently.

I am serious..the box was just delivered 2hrs ago..expected it in June or July..so pretty sweet to get it early.
>>
>>54384631
you should resell it on ebay without opening it
>>
>>54384514
Too bad indeed, especially as SteamVR is an open platform and the ReVive project made it possible to play a couple of Rift titles on the Vive.
>>
>>54384672
Yeah.
I didn't get Project C.A.R.S. to work with the Vive.
Maybe it's UAC fucking up the hooking dll files on Windows 10.
>>
I don't yet have $800.
On the other hand my monitor desperately needs to be replaced, so if I had to get just one ting I guess I'd get a vive. Oled screens I think and VR, if I got just a monitor I probably couldn't get much of an oled one for under $1k. So provided it works with my stuff I'd get a vive.

I tried one for ten minutes last weekend in a Gamestop: it's probably the most flashy piece of technology since the creation of the PC, but I am not sure if I am ready for this, maybe because I'm getting old, but I think it may be too much at least for me.

yes, virtual desktop for apps and the built-in steam viewer for games

however, this doesn't make those older games binocular (or head-tracking), but simply visualizes a huge screen in front of you as if you were in a theater

If Train Simulator 2016 had native support for it I would have bought one already.

but it's possible for programmers to make head tracking support for older games right? Not that it's simple, but couldn't someone develop a program that maps headset movement to mouse movement? I'm pretty sure it exists for the rift already

This is why we're in neo-/g/

VR isn't about fucking video games you god damn cucks. The future of the fucking internet is going to be in VR and then go beyond eventually. But for now we need to take this shit seriously because there is a lot to be done in terms of making the internet a virtual reality. You cucks are so caught up in your corporatized internet to realize this isn't about your fucking apps and games. And this isn't about making 'online' shopping 3 dimensional. This about a taking a very LARGE step with respect to the human condition. The internet did that and then got fucking corporatized and dumbed down. It will happen with VR, sure. But the landscape of the internet will be deeply apart of our fabric in a way this internet isn't. With this more people will realize the internet is OUR internet. Not the NSA's. Not Google's. Not Amazon's. Not Facebook's. OURS. And with the growth of programming and web dev knowledge we and future generations will claim control of the internet in a way neither the government nor corporations can full account for or manage. THis isn't some reddit le~futurism either. I'm talking very simple changes. The only thing that is a gimmick, the only thing that is a meme, the only thing that's stupid about it is your inability to see the simplicity a very real future. Small steps for computers; large steps for mankind.
>>
>>54386344
>The future of the fucking internet is going to be in VR and then go beyond eventually.
Yeah in 90's Sci Fi's maybe.

Its taken YEARS for 4k to get remotely where it is today and we will need 8k and GPU's that dont exist for another 10 years for VR to be even remotely worth it.

Then you still have the same problems you do today just better resolution.
>>
I actually have both the rift and vive preordered right now, they're both supposed to ship this month. I was considering getting the rift which is why I preordered it way way back when the preorder was launched. After it became clear Oculus couldn't fill orders I preordered Vive.

Looking at what is out this moment, I'm about to cancel both of my preorders today or tomorrow, I really don't see a big reason to own one right this second.

Oculus and HTC shills convince me not to cancel.
>>
>>54383566

>>
>>54386430
>buying gen2 VR
Why?

2.5k resolution isnt enough
>>
>>54381219
Because I'm getting a 2nd Gen vr head mounted display.
>>
>>54386344
>The future of the fucking internet is going to be in VR and then go beyond eventually.
I certainly hope not, can you image what /g/ would be like in VR? Stallman avatars nagging about GNU/LOONIX, hot bimbos discussing how USB type C will replace every single connector out there and a bunch of namefags walking around with a Lain avatar.
>>
Is there any reason to get the Vive over the Rift if you don't have a designated holodeck in your apartment?
>>
>>54386428
I didn't mention anything about this happening within our lifetimes. We will get 8k and faster GPUs and that will move us into a VR commercialized internet where the main people who can afford to design these websites and access them in their highest quality will be early adopters. Sure. But just as teenagers can learn to make websites that look like the best of them now, so in the future VR web will be easily crafter. We'll be old, maybe dead but things will change quickly once the right tech is accessible and the code is easier to implement.
>>
>>54386535
No one said it was going to be pretty. The people behind the keyboard will not change when we start calling them the people behind the headset
>>
>>54386571
It actually ships with the right controllers, unlike the Rift and it's "free" Xbone controller.
>>
Because OSVR is going to allow me to make my own modifications, implement my own Crossec OLED + CFL + MR display set up for a complete field of vision, 3d print and build my own more comfortable motion controller design, and play everything that's already there and more, without selling my information to HTC or Facebook.
Seriously, like you should read the privacy policies for both hardware, the vive and oculus, it's fucking ridiculous.
OSVR is the linux of VR, and I fully intend to take advantage of its open sourceness.

I flipped my April delivered Vive on eBay for what should have been a decent amount of cash, but eBay fees and shit since splitting from PayPal have gone through the roof . I sold it for around 1300 including the game keys, but after the free us shipping for $50 since it's a big box shipped in a huge box, 40 or so dollars in PayPal fees, and the 130 I had to pay to eBay because they demand ten fucking percent of the final sale fee , I may have barely made 200 on the whole fucking thing. Fuck that. If I flip another I'm staying the hell off eBay.

I may just buy one to keep...

>>
Because I'll let others pay out the ass to effectively beta test a product. v2 will be out in 2 years or less.

Also right now there's not much you can do with it.
>>
>>54387130
It is the accurate vernacular for buying something with an intent to sell for more than you paid for it, often with putting work into the sale somehow. . You buy a pair of shoes. You flip real estate, rare electronics and other things with high demand.
>>
>>54387130
there's a distinction in meaning

"flip" means to sell something right after buying it for a profit, rather than just generically selling anything at anytime
>>
>>54387091
Pfft, you got it too slow. I sold mine for $1900. Paid for itself. Also sold some Rifts for 2x the price.

Got another last week. Enjoying the fuck out of SPT. Does need more games though but I feel like I have my own arcade inside my home now. Worth it.

>>
>>54381219

>>
>>54383064
Sure they will. They're manly a screen and a gyro. Gaming mice sensor prices fell astronomically once production ramped up, so did smartphone screens. The vive/oculus are a bit special since they use special 1080x1200 screens, but i'd wager those will also become cheap as fuck.

The glass/Plastic/Lighthousing can be sacrificed to make a cheaper product. aslong as the main gyro sensors and screen are fine, you'll still get a good VR experience.

The point is, we're going to have a fuckload of new VR tech next year when everyone and their mother buys one for the holidays.
>>
>>54384514
>Because the Vive is a better unit on all sides.
apparently the rift is a lot more comfortable than the vive.
>>
>>54385437
It's not neccesarily as straight forward as that. If you simply override the control scheme your head movements will probably be restricted (since you usually can't bank or bend your view backwards in an fps).

Cameras in quite a few games use Euler angles so you might run into gimbal lock. Now you could just override the camera view entirely but then you might fuck up something in the game.

Also merely controlling your head rotation for a game in VR sucks.
>>
It costs 800 fucking dollars

> ~1000x1000 resolution (not that GPUs could keep up otherwise)

I'll consider it when these are fixed.

>>
I have post vitrous detachment. If I strap a bright screen to my face, alll I see is floaters. Probably, havent tried a vr thing yet.
>>
Got one at my company.

I have to say I was very doubtful about it because the lack of physical reaction basically turning it into wii-waggle-o-matic 2.0. But I have tried it out now and man... it's fucking great. They put the same vibration mechanics valve used in their steam controllers to simulate haptics into the vive controllers. That's just enough physical response to make it way more realistic.
The bow demo feels a lot more natural as the vibrations simulate the real-life vibrations of drawing a string.

Will definitely get one when i have the money and hardware.
