gorgeous syntax
multi-paradigm
natively concurrent
meshes with C ABI

what went wrong, /g/?

>meshes with C ABI
Every lang does that. Now to what went wrong:

>wasting dev ressources on attemp to mesh with all C++ ABIs available
Why would you do this if they change every x years...
>too much like C++
>some libraries still depend on DMD
Apart from this it's pretty based.

Is it worth learning?

>gorgeous syntax
Subjective; I disagree
>multi-paradigm
"Do one thing and do it well" becomes "half-ass three or four different things"
>natively concurrent
Just like its contemporaries (wow it's fucking nothing)
>meshes with C ABI
Just like next to everything that runs on your computer (wow it's fucking nothing)

So what you're saying is D is not such a gr8 lang?
>>
>>54382179
It's hipster C++ the same way Ruby is hipster Perl. All four suck IMO, but that's just my opinion.

Show me some nice examples of D
>>
>>54382293
This is not relevant, but Python seems more like hipster Perl, it's replaced Perl as the defacto scripting language and general purpose programming language for writing glue programs.
>>
>>54382447
Note "hipster". Python replaced Perl as the bloated scripting language for Linux, but Ruby did it for OS X.
>>54382370
I'd show you mine, but I'd get banned because this is a blue board.

I've seen Python widely used on Linux and OS X, but I've not seen Ruby used beyond OS X, mostly with Rails or Homebrew desu

Yep. That's what I mean. Hipsters who can't even invert a binary tree.

"Idiomatic D code is commonly as fast as equivalent C++ code, while being shorter and memory-safe."

I don't have any love or D as a language but Walter Bright embodies the spirit that I got into programming for. I'll never contribute to D, I'll probably never write another project in D, but I really hope things work out for Bright. We've seen a lot of people get railroaded for this kind of thing, D is probably still obscure enough that he can get away with it but the options are fundamentally remain in obscurity, change, or get your career ruined. I hope for his sake that Bright remains forever in his moral obscurity.
