I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

So it's somebody else's fault your OS is shitty?

Did you not have a father or was he so beta he never taught you not to blame others for your mistakes?
>>
>lack of ACLs

I know this is a shitty attempt at a troll thread but holy shit is ACL so bad on Windows.

Not only under totally unusual circumstances (200+ people directly using the same UNIX machine and accessing the same things for some reason) will you ever need anything more than simple user/group/everyone flags on files, but it's just.. holy fuck, have you ever tried to take control of a system file that you need to edit on Windows? Not only are the Windows ACLs a total mess (so, so many redundant flags) but trying to edit a file under \Windows (that you will probably need to do at some point if you are doing some sort of development or running into some weird problem) you have to navigate through a clusterfuck of panels to claim full ownership of the file just so you can edit it. At some point I had a shortcut that would handle this, but after you're done editing your file you should also be setting the permissions back to the previous settings, lest you willingly open yourself to a fucking security hole since you are now able to fully control a system file without elevated access. In which case you must go back again and make sure TrustedInstaller or whatever owns it.

While in UNIX you just

sudo vi /etc/hosts

Don't even bother, OP just collected a bunch on dank memes in a poor troll atempt.
Most of the "arguments" he provides are a bunch of Windows specific workarounds for poor design choices.

>primitive filepicker
u wot m8? Linux has no filepicker at all, it's a kernel
>inexistent hardware support
linux has support for more hardware than any other kernel
>lack of ACLs
wrong
>lack of an embedded firewall
why would a kernel need a firewall?
>virtually no sound support
wrong
>recompiling the kernel everytime something goes wrong
wrong
>stone-age energy-inefficient scheduler
u wot?
>absent software support
more userland software than any other os
>no Direct3D support
Why didn't you say so earlier? I want /v/ to leave

>primitive filepicker
I give you this, as someone who just wants a complete DE that gets the fuck out of my way and just works, I really hate how every single DE I've tried(I've tried them all) has something or the other lacking.

>inexistent hardware support
>lack of ACLs
>lack of an embedded firewall
>virtually no sound support
>recompiling the kernel everytime something goes wrong
Nah

>stone-age energy-inefficient scheduler
very true, at least GUI wise. Inexcusable if I have to mess around in CLI just to set something up like energy profiles

>absent software support
>no Direct3D support
This is the fault of closed source vendors, I don't ask them to open source their projects, but you can't expect the FOSS community to somehow conjure up code if the vendor isn't willing to provide support

>no interoperability with latest phones and tablets
Works fine in my experience, but there may be some cases

>no security mitigations
>higher TCO
I can't answer for these, no experience with this

WINE has D3D support. Dunno what OP is on about, most of the stuff he listed is completely fine in Linux.
