I want to make a batch script that basically tells me that my internet is working.

I want it to continuously attempt pinging, say, "google.com" and it will keep doing it until google.com pings back and then the command prompt will close which will indicate to me that I'm back online.

I've been having internet issues and I want to be able to tell from across the room that my internet is restored rather than being forced to sit down and see the little networking icon in the corner, which I can't see at a distance. Does anybody know how I could write such a batch script or even if there is a simple ping command that will keep attempting to ping a source while my internet is down?

yes, localhost is just a loopback. That means that anything referencing it bypasses the part of the process where it uses the network hardware to go find the address because it knows that it's just itself. As far as anyone outside is concerned, the global address means the same thing.

It doesn't have to be encrypted, basicly when using it to get around firewalls and whatnot instead of it going directly to the source and being denied, it goes to the tunnel source and asked it to go and grab the data and then redirect it to your ip. When it goes back through your firewall/ipblocker it doesn't flag it as a blocked website and only sees the ip of the tunnel you connect to.

Tl;Dr goes from your computer asked another computer to redirect data to your computer instead of going directly to source

so I keep using multiple search engines and find nothing to help

I have dreamweaver and a really basic knowledge of HTML, I have a website and I want it to do a few simple things, I have accomplished what I set out to do, that being said, I want to be able to have it run on phones and mobile devices because I've realized not everyone is on a desktop pc, loads of normies need to be able to view the website

I want to basically make a few small changes to make my site more user friendly and modern and learn the code from a reverse engineering standpoint then manipulate it later on after tinkering with things, I have a really basic knowledge of flash animation, like just animating things in a class an an adult learning center, but no idea how flash translates to websites and in building a flash webpage I think I'd be screwed

so I am here to ask, is there a website building program that's laid out like photoshop, or indesign, that lets you design a website and then codes it for you and isn't free? (I assume free=shit)

thank you

I have a couple of questions regarding video games and I figure I'd ask here because /v/ are children and don't use GNU/Linux. I switched from Win7 to Xubuntu a while ago and so far the only game I've been playing is Morrowind using openMW.

> Will mods made for vanilla MW work in openMW?
> Will I be able to run VtM:B through Wine? Will the patches work?
> COD4:MW is available through PlayOnLinux but requires a NoCD patch because the DRM is incompatible (strangely, MW2 and 3 are available without cracks). Do I just install it, replace the .exe with the cracked one like I would on Windows and then run it through Wine?
>>
>>54373182 here again
Also should I install Steam games under Xubuntu by installing Steam through PlayonLinux, then installing the games through Steam, or should I choose to install the game from the PlayonLinux install window and somehow (how?) point it to my steam account instead an installation DVD?

I heard that the OpenMW project wants to be compatible with mods for MW, but this is really not the best place for answers to that question.
You can look up if a certain game will work in Wine on winehq.com. VtM:B has a platinum rating for the gog.com version
>>54373343
Steam has a Linux version, so why would you install Steam through PlayOnLinux? Just look up information on that on Steam's official website, they will surely explain much better how to do it.

Actually a bunch of things - It'll double as a home server / nas and a htpc.

I'll have Kodi on it for movies and TV, (note the DR plugin, which can stream my local tv).
I also want to use to use it to stream Rocket League from my desktop to the living room, it's a ton of fun split-screen.
Then I'll have an mpd server and a subsonic server (as I do now, can recommend!), a vpn server for my dad living abroad, a general-purpose ftp server for myself, and probably a minecraft server or a TF2 server at some point.

I think I'll go with a Pentium G4400.

Hmm, I guess I'll just try and see if MW mods work then.
Don't really want to pay 20 bucks for VTMB again when I already bought it on Steam, wait for sales.

>Steam has a Linux version
Well, yes. I'm not sure if I can install games that are not available for Linux natively through that version, though.
Take Modern Warfare 2 for example. I have Steam installed in PlayonLinux and I can install COD through that. Or I could go to the games section in PlayonLinux and install it from there, which asks for the installation disk.

github is just a service for git.
read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git_%28software%29
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Version_control

You put your code on git and people will be able to read it, download it etc.
If it works on your machine, it should work on their machines, but you probably have to tell them how to install it / configure it etc. (basically you have to do a small documentation).

What do you mean by demo ? you want to put your stuff on github and so ppl can use it ? then no. It's not a hosting platform for websites. Just code.

I just installed a new header unit on my car myself. It was pretty fucking easy. Then I remembered I have an amp and subs laying around so I want to install those. However, after digging into my trunk, side trim, etc. I realized that this is going to fucking suck ass. Should I do it myself or have best buy or some other place do it? There literally isnt even a place to the power cable through to the battery without drilling and I don't have a drill.

>>
>>54374415
depending on your definition of network everything is a network, so security and networks are very closely related.
Programming only comes into play to actually make networking and security programs work the way they should, or to exploit their flaws, so if you use tools that others have already programmed you don't need to know (much) about programming to have expertise in networking and security

Do I just copy important data, DBAN + format and install my OS of choice? I'm considering a clean Win7 installation on my laptop to get rid of years of pent-up app data and other junk.

Thanks

Posted on /diy/, but they told me to go here

I want to automatically read data from a chrome extension (which has real time data from a game, the data I want to log)

I have some knowledge in C and matlab (and a tinybut it's mostly simulation related stuff for my classes.

Basically I'm asking where to start or how to approach this because I have no idea how to extract the data, I googled a bit but it was mostly website-related and not for extensions (I don't know if it makes a difference, I have 0 knowledge on websites)

Attached picture is what it looks like, it's called WT map if it's any help. I want to log some of the numbers on the right.

I have a project due where I need to write a program in Java to allow a user to try and solve an open Knight's tour problem on a 3x4 board (pic related), the program is to be console based.

The board is represented using a 2D array.

The user enters a file and rank to move the knight to and the program needs to detect if the square has already been visited and move it to it if it hasn't and deny the move if it has and then (if it hasn't already been visited) print an updated board to the screen, with an incrementing number representing the knight's current position (1 for starting position, 2 for second position moved to, 3 for third, etc)

I'm not asking someone to write it for me, just a few pointers to help me get on the right path.

Is it worth getting into x99 at this point or wait for the newest shit again?

not feeling z170 as the more cores and better selection of x10 sata ports suits my needs for x99

I can still get usb 3.1 and m.2 boards, so apart from a slightly faster newer chipset is there anything im missing out on going x99 instead of z170?

I hear windows will only support skylake onwards which is just a dick move from ms but apart from that is there any benefit or exclusives im missing from going x99a instead of z170?

and also can truecrypt7.1a (pls leave your meems)
utilise full disk encryption on m.2 or pci-e like the intel 750?

I figured it out, I feel awfully dumb now, the problem I was facing was that apparently you need to include the tag name and its value in quotes as on argument like
ffmpeg -i inputfile -c copy -metdata "title=The Title of the Thing" outputfile

while I understood most metadata input to require the tag's value alone to be in quotes like
ffmpeg -i inputfile -c copy -metdata title="The Title of the Thing" outputfile
>>
>>54376480
>filling out captchas
>>
>>54376794
Not too many metadata tags can be written in webms that I've found.
-metadata title="Video title"
-metadata:s:v:0 title="Video track title"
-metadata:s:v:0 language="English"

For date of webm creation to be written (linux):
-metadata creation_time="$(date -u --rfc-3339=seconds)"

If anyone knows any more that would be neat.

Is there a way to block a specific registry key from being created?

Ask because there's an old game I've been playing that creates a registry key when I close it which causes it to crash when I try to open it again next time, only fix is to go into regedit and find and delete the key which is annoying.

Well, you could alternatively create a batch file or PowerShell script that drops the key and then runs the game.

The tutorial I'm using taught me that I can get a variables address like this
printf("0x%d", &d);

Is there a more elegant way to do this?
