4. Sony Walkman
3. Apple Macintosh
2. Sony Trinitron
1. Apple iPhone

>Apple was the first company to put a truly powerful computer in the pockets of millions when it launched the iPhone in 2007. Smartphones had technically existed for years, but none came together as accessibly and beautifully as the iPhone. Apple’s device ushered in a new era of flat, touchscreen phones with buttons that appeared on screen as you needed them, replacing the chunkier phones with slide-out keyboards and static buttons. What really made the iPhone so remarkable, however, was its software and mobile app store, introduced later. The iPhone popularized the mobile app, forever changing how we communicate, play games, shop, work, and complete many everyday tasks.

>The iPhone is a family of very successful products. But, more than that, it fundamentally changed our relationship to computing and information—a change likely to have repercussions for decades to come.

They're right. If it wasn't for the iPhone the "smartphone revolution" wouldn't have started where dirt cheap smartphone could now be accessible for millions of people. Before the iPhone we just had crappy very expensive business smartphone with resistive touchscreens.

Think back to how the internet was before the iPhone and how it is now. The fucking iPhone ruined everything and allowed normies to populate the internet with their cancer. The iphone influenced the world for the worst.

Just the name of that topic suggests it was made up to somehow list iPhone as number one.

I get influential people lists but this is just stupid. To me the most influential gadget would be a flushing toilet or something like that.

A toilet isn't a gadget, you idiot.

This is true.

I miss the old internet where the web wasn't even a thing, people used archie/gopher, and everyone talked over IRC and usenet.

Yep, I was there. Sorry you kids missed it.
>>
>>54367732
I completely agree.

The UI in Apple Products are always 100% good. Tech companies usually design their electronics with the software/hardware in mind, without ever thinking of the user. What's the use of designing things if people have a hard time accessing them?

>>
>>54370823

>>
>>54370761
He's right

SJW shit is just entitled kids who overshare without understanding that the internet is a public space, and then react like they've been confronted in private when one of the millions of people who can read everything they post disagrees or dislikes them

When the internet was restricted to adults and posting your personal life was rarer than posting shit that was actually up for debate, such things rarely happened
>>
>>54370934
It wasn't even a physical thing, for a start.
>>
>>54370877
>What's the use of designing something so fucking dumbed down

So it can be accessible to everyone, regardless of their understanding of technology. The primary reason a company makes a product is to sell, so they're going to take factors such as these into account.

>aren't able to take full advantage of it if they really need to?
I agree with you on this, though. In exchange for making Apple products accessible to nearly everyone who isn't stupid, you lose the ability to 100% customize the product. The main challenge here is making the product intuitive for everyone all the while still having the ability to customize it yourself how you see fit, that's the main challenge IU designers face.

That's pretty much why most of /g/ prefers Android over IOS, since you can easily change whatever you like as you see fit. It's a bit harder for iPhones, but most people (I.E. not neets or technology-enthusiasts) don't really care about that and want something that just werks out of the box.

wish we cud go bak 2 da internet not bein a form of entertainmint jus learnin
>>
>>54370906
find something cool someone did with an iphone. there are lots of tech/consumer rags reporting on that.

now realize they needed a mac, xcode, and an apple developer license to even hit the prototype phase.

>>54370941
apple hates customization because apple loves their brand image

half their marketing strategy is that macs have a generic aesthetic that looks good - not amazing, but not bad either - and that other devices let you have a UI that looks bad. the appeal of owning an iphone is being able to show, with a logo, that you don't have bad taste, or, that even if you do, nobody will ever know because you can't express it.

Instead of shitposting, why not explain why you think I'm wrong? Apple products are mostly intuitive which makes it easy for any regular Joe to use them. If it wasn't for them, as
>>54369059
put it, we would still have crappy expensive business smartphones with resistive touchscreens. Not even Android would exist as it currently does, most likely.
