This only means AMD will take their place. The biggest issue for an x86 phone isn't the CPU but the GPU for hardware acceleration. Best intel could do was slap a powervr gpu on their atom soc for the zenfone 2.
AMD already has a 4.5W TDP SoC (A10 micro-6700T) that scores nearly 2,000 on multi-core passmark. It includes a GPU with 128 cores up to 500mhz.
If AMD makes a 4.5W TDP carrizo APU with a good 1.2 GCN GPU then they could have a chance at the smartphone market. Though I think they will wait until Zen APUs are out to make phone APUs.
