First linux distro I've used, couldn't get anything to work without googling and putting in commands I didn't understand. Crashing my system with no survivors just from trying to install a theme.
If this is what spoonfeeding is like then I should just turn back now.
>>
also good luck compiling something
it will nag you for missing pkgs every time you try after installing them one by one and give up at the end
maybe there is a dev group or something im not aware of if not man ubuntu sucks

I did that, and it worked (sort of).
Then I tried to change theme in theme configurations and it completely crashed, every time I logged in I'd end up with an empty desktop without a taskbar or icons and no keyboard commands would work. Only thing I could do is play with the mouse and wonder where I went wrong in life.

Had to delete the theme I installed through the root in system restore just to get it to work again.

Well i get that people choose ubuntu.

> biggest distro
> huge userbase, making problems easy to solve by googling
> easy to use/set up
>l ots of flavors

The problem is, at this point, fedora/opensuse/debian are way better. And some of them are as easy to use/insta as ubuntu.

This.
There is a learning curve with everything. People start from the easiest one with the best support and work their way up.
Coming from windows you want something with a gui for practically everything as a terminal is somewhat scary/strange.

Is this a meme? How can you have trouble installing Ubuntu?

Its been years since I used Linux for desktop-use, yet it only took 30 minutes for me to just download a 16.04 image, create a bootable USB with it using Win32DiskImager and then install on laptop.

I know right. So many Linux babbies here. Literally all the distros have a tiny netinstall image that give you effectively the same results as doing the arch or gentoo dance.

All this distro fanboyism is totally meaningless now that systemd has become ubiquitous. Other than package managers (which all work fine these days), all the big distros (arch, centos, debian, fedora, gentoo, opensuse and ubuntu) are pretty much the same, give or take a mount point here or a symlink there.

Go get passionate about something less banal you fucking nerds.

What is a "pkg gui"?

You broke something, and that's Ubuntu's fault?

Even if this is true, who cares?

Of all the criticism possible of Ubuntu, you choose this pile of bullshit?

Try again. Are you referring to synaptic? The Software Center? aptitude? Do you even realize there's a difference?
>>You broke something, and that's Ubuntu's fault?
>me? no. other people online, yes
Ubuntu is one of the most used distributions ever made -- of course you're not the only one who broke it.
>>Even if this is true, who cares?
>>pile of bullshit?
>thats your opinion
No, your post reads like you're a high schooler swelling with pride that he installed Arch 10 minutes ago.

Here are some actual issues with Ubuntu:
1. Doesn't give two fucks about your freedom, unlike Debian
2. Canonical has a track record of severe NIH, including Unity, Mir, and most painfully bzr
3. Amazon search lens casts doubt on how much Canonical really cares about users' privacy

thats again your opinion

the pkg group issue is relevant. the attitude of who cares speaks badly but you are probably right and this is how devs must feel as well
>>
>>54357167

The default one for a minimal Ubuntu installation is apt-get.

DE means desktop environment. It also stands for Deutschland (Germany).

>>54354299
Try using Lubuntu or Kbuntu if you have powerful enough hardware for it. KDE doesn't run so well on 2GB of RAM (poorfag). Lubuntu does it perfectly, it's just a little rougher around the edges and it's ass ugly.

See 'man dnf' and 'man yum2dnf' for more information.
