What SSD should I get if all I care about is making my X200 boot fast?
Any
>>54352926
Literally any. Get the cheapest one you can find that has no "this failed it 2 months!" reviews.
>>54352926
Anything except Kingston V300.
kingdian s280
dirt cheap and performs fucking amazing for its price
>>54352926
crucial, oxd (sp), intel, samsung
those are the only ones i would trust
also, find out how fast the sata is and see if you can get by with one a few gens old
ssds are fucking great, but god damn, do they get even cheaper the older they are,
if you are only using them for light loads like boot, and not constantly writing, you may even be able to get a used one that someone upgraded from.
>>54352926
just get the cheapest smallest one you can fit your operating system on with room for updates and such.
>>54353026
why not a V300?
Kingdian S280
>>54352926
how much space will an OS take?
what other things should I put it a 120gb? I was thinking of an antivirus.
>>54353203
Not including swap Linux takes some 5 gb iirc
>>54353167
>>54353035
only thing im worried about these are that they might just shit out on me within a year or so.
>>54353203
>antivirus
lol
>>54353203
>what other things should I put it a 120gb? I was thinking of an antivirus.
...wat
>>54353203
>what other things should I put it a 120gb? I was thinking of an antivirus.
lol
>>54353203
well i have a 120gb intel boot i got 5~ years ago, i put win7 on it, all my boot programs and i still have nearly 26gb free, putting on images and stuff i use to jerk off to, get a quick laugh, whatever, takes up another 6.
but i also have a 4tb mass storage drive and a 4tb game drive
i highly recommend having mass storage drive if you save shit, other wise 120gb is fine, granted looking at the price, i would go 256~gb as it is the best price value they offer.
>>54353270
Bough chinese SSD 3 years ago, has tens of TB's host writes and is still running strong.
As for boot times with laptop, just use standby and hibernate modes, no need to boot that often.
>>54352926
Three words:
Sandisk SSD Plus
It has MLC!
>>54353645
My PC case has flashing lights when it's on sleep mode. It's either me sleeping or it.
>>54353160
bait and switch after good reviews
>>54353761
Take the sharpie out of yer pooper and cover up those lights.
Samsung drives have yet to fail on me.
Any SSD will pretty much do it though now.
Kingston Ultra II and Samsung 850 Evo both have pretty good reviews that go into how long they should last and are also pretty cheap, but yeah, as long as you don't go Kingston you should be fine.
Good(FAST and Reliable)
Any Intel SSD, Sandisk Ultra ll, Samsung 850 EVO.
So-so(Fast but not so reliable but will do the Job just fine):
ADATA SP550, Sandisk SSD Plus, Crucial BX100
Bad(Slow, really low reliability so will fail fast):
Any Kingston, OCZ.
Shit:
PNY
mSATA or SATA SSD?
>>54353006
>no failed in 2 months
>cheap tlc ssds
all the lame ssds have manufacturing problems
>>54354391
OCZ should be somewhat better now that Toshiba acquired them. Otherwise pretty accurate
>>54353216
Linux only takes about ~40MB, and that's a bloated uncompressed image.
>>54354391
What's wrong with PNY? I have had mine for a year now and it works fine.
Either that or I got lucky, but from my experience it doesn't seem too bad.
>>54354391
>sandisk over OCZ
>>54355706
>OCZ
>not bargain bin tier
>>54352926
I got advised the Kingston Hyperx Fury SSD.
Yes it's a fucking Gaymur tier meme name, but they're among the cheapest SSDs out there and are supposed to be good.
>>54353809
Did they switch to something that bad?
>>54356012
This bad.
>>54353026
I have 3 of these and they are just as fast as my Samsung 850 evo. They have lasted over a year as well.
Get 850 only because of the warranty and the god tier customer service
>>54355253
My OCZ Agility 3 is still chugging along 3 years later
This is my KingDian 480GB SSD, I paid $118 for it worldwide free shipping, it took 2 weeks to arrive and I'm just sad that the 4K write is half of what they advertised, dunno if the speed is caused by the SSD or an external factor(like my shitty $55 MOBO), but still $118 for a 480GB SSD with this speeds is a fucking bargain.
9.5/10 would buy again.
>>54356209
The 120GB version is a bit better, read speeds are actually decent, just the write speeds are for the toilet.
>>54356430
pic related
>>54352926
>X200
Your C2D chinkpad from 2008 will always be dogshit slow. Any SSD will improve it a bit, but the best option is to get a job and get a modern machine.
>>54357454
I have a job though. I'm at work right now.
I'm a middle school history teacher.
