Because guns are illegal, If you want a shitty handgun you have to do a lot of paperwork, travel to Mexico city and you can't move the handgun out of your home, also if you shoot someone in self defense you are still fucked. It makes me laugh when california cucks want to ban guns while here criminals have 50 cals and armored cars and anyone with a rifle/handgun is basically breaking the law. Anyways if you have money and you live in one of the few decent cities you are alright.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/fintech-shaking-up-the-financial-industry/
>Max Levchin: The banks have not realized how different this generation is.

>Max Levchin, who co-founded PayPal and was an early investor in Stripe, cites a survey saying 70 percent of young adults would rather go to the dentist than to a bank!

>Max Levchin: They don't really have a problem putting their social security number into a web form, but they have a terrible problem going up to a teller in a bank, and trying to figure out what exactly you're supposed to do. "This is so inefficient. Why am I in this stogy outdated room that is empty and marble-laden?"

-----
>John Collison: As services move onto the Internet they can provide the services more cheaply. And you know many of these banks, they have hundreds of thousands of employees. Whereas as we see financial services moving online, they don't have to have a physical presence and pay for that. So you can eliminate hidden fees if your cost structure is lower.

>Lesley Stahl: And I'm hearing "eliminate jobs," I mean we're talking about hundreds of thousands of jobs in the banking sector, tellers and, you know, financial advisors, you name it.
>>
>>54352444
I actually don't mind taxi drivers here, they are sometimes fun to talk to and they never ask for tips or anything. In fact I always "tip" them because I'm too lazy to wait for change, now whenever I go to NY or any big city in the US I tip anyone 15% and they still look at me like I just killed their first born just because I didn't tip them 50 bucks for carrying my bag.
>>
What is this Uber thing I've been hearing about? How does it work? Is it like anyone can be a Taxi driver or something?
>>
>>54352477
From my understanding of it, you sign up as a driver and basically work as a taxi driver. The app will automatically charge the passenger's credit card, take the company's cut, and transfer the rest to you.
>>
>>54352342
same in Brazil.

taxi drivers actually had a "protest" in Rio once, basically stopping the city in the morning, and that day Uber registered 700% more users as an effect.
>>
>>54352494
How is it any different from any other cab company then?
>>
>>54352316

This. When your job security is not acquired through skills (any 16 years old with a license has the technical requirements to drive a taxi) but some sort of shady legal monopoly you can be 110 % sure you will be replaced by a machine.
>>
>>54352551
As I understand it the pricing changes based on how many drivers are available or something. That's all I really know, since I don't use it.
>>
>>
>>54352342
BUILD WALL
>>
>>54352037
>>
>>54352551
Well here in Mexico you have to pay a "taxi license" which I assume requires a bribe to "speed up the process" + taxis are controlled by syndicates and shit so it's not like anyone can open a taxi company without money+connections.
>>
I'm not really jealous of uber. I just wish there was something like this for education. I plan on building a university but the initial costs, government regulations and such are overwhelming. I want to simply offer courses anytime people want, any duration they want, online or offline. Then just make them take standardized test and issue them an electronic certificate equivalent to a degree. This is what's really stopping development in the world.

Anon, I'm pretty sure nearly all Uber drivers have their driver's license. Nothing to be afraid of.
>>
>>54352650

Not that kind of license.
>>
>>54352194
>why don't you guys like uber?
Because their dodgy business model revolves around transferring as much risk as possible to their employees. Including but not limited to insurance shenanigans and attempting to call them contractors. It's very American in that sense, screwing over the little guy, and I want no part of it.
>>
>>54352671

Well as far as I'm concerned, that's the only license they should need. A driver's license is a clear sign that someone is capable of safely operating a motor vehicle. If any other license should be necessary, it is a clear sign of a government overstepping it's bounds to create unnecessary artificial barriers to entry.
>>
>>54352634
>Are employees
Negatory. They're independent contractors because Uber doesn't want to pay overtime, deal with HR or have to take responsibility when one of their drivers is an axe murderer
>>
>>54352650
In Mexico illegal taxies are called "pirate". There are a bunch of them of slum areas, usually run by criminal gangs or even narcs because they also work as "Falcons" (watchmen on the look out for army or police movements). Illegal taxies are also used for kidnapping or simply to save an independent entrepreneur some cash on licenses.

Last time I checked the main problem was having the fare prices set too high by regulation, which is also the cause of taxi medallions and equivalent selling for ridiculous sums of monies.

oh my those evil bastards

And Mexico is a shit hole run by cartels. Your point?

>>54352766

I live in Washington. Most people are shitty drivers. Nonetheless, taxi licenses can't really ensure a much greater quality of driving. Their only real purpose is to limit supply of drivers. Any moral person would not accept their existence and actively attempt to disrupt a system that requires them by funding the black market alternative.
>>
>>54352853
>lower prices
maybe, but not always

most uber drivers have another job to support their 'needs to be recent' car

>>
>>54352877
>Your point?
Unregulated taxi services make criminal activities easier.
>>
>>54352896

Yeah man offering people jobs is literally slavery.

Thank you for convincing me Pablo, we'll ban Uber now and you can go back to your job.
>>
>>54352885

And yet if they did not think it worth their time and other resources, they would not become Uber drivers.

>>54352896

An ideal society has neither slaves nor slave masters. If you do not work for a living, you are a slave master, and those who are supporting you, slaves.

Unless someone is incapable of work from disability, there is no reason one can morally argue that society should pay their way.

>>54352940

My point is that Mexico is so filled with crime that it's hardly a comparison. Things like kidnappings don't happen nearly as often here, and chances are, any hardened criminal will have their own car or a friend dedicated for such purposes.
>>
>>54352985
i guess, but most are already well off, which is the point you ignored. this edging out of people who "need the opportunity" of an uber job vs people who can afford to make the extra buck (in their eyes) by doing something easy.

same as someone owning a house building an adu and using airbnb to fill it. they don't /want/ to be landlords, it's a matter of convenience and a little bit of greed usually because everyone is inherently a lazy shit
>>

pricing changes based on holiday and how many people need an uber, if everything is just fine, ok, but if shit is hitting the fan it could cost you 9x as much.

still more convenient than a taxi

anyone can be an uber driver, and you are charged for the destination not time in car or miles driven so you cant get screwed.

I find that, in cities, cyclists are not a problem as traffic is at a standstill most of the time anyway, so any "problems" they cause for traffic are made irrelevant once you enter a city. However, in smaller towns, villages, or otherwise rural areas they start to become a pain in the ass, as there are cycle paths literally EVERY FUCKING WHERE but the cunts continue to cycle on the roads, resulting in traffic build ups should overtakes not be possible at the time.

Uber's eventual goal is driverless cars.

You cucks talk about how Uber fucks over the middle man? You fools don't even get it.

Uber is so silicon valley, it hurts. They expand into countries where they aren't even legally allowed to be there, and then they just lobby to get laws passed until they are legal.

The mastermind of Obama's 08' campaign is who is helping them invade these countries

Uber is innovating, even when it involves destabilizing old industries like the taxi cab industry. Morality isn't even in question, its about progress, whether you like it or not.

The future is now.

So you better get your lube, because this innovation is happening whether you like it or not.
