Most normalfags I know either call it 'tom tom' (as in the $80, 4x4px, slow as shit, plastic navigation system with maps from 2003). Why don't people just get a usb 12v car adapter and use their smartphones? Google's maps are very up to date and free to use, even applel uses their data for their maplels app.

no this guarentees the filesystem will be intact. File data no, but filesystem yeah
>>
>>54348248

No, because it tells the application to finish what its doing, once that has been done it lets the user know they can pull the drive out.
>>
>>54348248
The idea is the OS will know when the transfer is finished, then safely unmount the drive.

Modern OSs flush their write buffers immediately when writing to removable devices to avoid the exact issue as much as possible. This means that as long as you don't yank the drive while it's actually being written to nothing bad would happen. I imagine most people don't remove their drives while copying shit to them, since that wouldn't make sense, so you won't have issues most of the time.

These people are on /g/. Ugh. Anyway though, mechanicfag here.

Your car's alternator is actually many devices in one. The stator and rotor create a 3 phase AC charge. The rectifier discards half the voltage to heat and leaves it with DC. The regulator keeps the voltage at a level the car is happy with - usually 13.85 VDC. This is what you have going to your cigarette lighter. The charger you plug into it is another regulator throttling it down to 5 VDC for USB or whatever the fuck Apple uses. Use a quality charger and you'll never have a problem.

Nope.

I have a power board that has a master plug, which only gives power to the other plugs if it senses over a certain voltage or wattage or something.

Put my computer on the master, and stereo, monitors, peripherals, fan/heater depending on season on the rest.

Sleep mode is a low enough voltage to trigger it off, so it's next to nothing, power-wise.

Going from typing to mouse movement without moving your hands is amazing, especially when you are using your laptop in a weird place that isnt a nice flat table with room for an extra mouse.

I used to call pic related USB's. Not thumbdrives, USB sticks or flash drives, just USB's. One of my old bosses flamed the fuck out about it one day, pointing out USB could mean anything, and if I didn't stop it he was going to cut USB plugs off dead kit and throw them at me every time he heard it. The thought of a basically a 60 year old Hoagie from DOTT hurling chunks of hardware at me from abut 10 meters away was pretty nice, but he made sense and I stopped.

Now of course I call them USBs at work just to piss off my colleagues. Feels good man.
