>>
Moto x 1st gen vs moto G 3rd gen .. 150$ budget which would /g/ recommend
>>
>>54341219
Moto G, there isn't much difference in performance, better camera, same amount of memory (if you get 2GB model), and microSD slot, only pro for 1G Moto X is more onboard storage
>>
>>54341161
More like $160, but Boost sucks
>>
Looking for:
- $200-$400 pricepoint
- Android Support for at least 2-3 more years
- Able to handle multitasking (ie play music and browse Chrome simultaneously. Nothing intense.)
- Social Media Apps don't have much lag issues (IG, Snapchat, FB, etc)
- Video Streaming on WiFi is not an issue (YouTube, Netflix)
- Battery can last at least a day with average use

*Important to know:
- I am a basic phone user and don't play any mobile games but use it for the above reasons + tasking apps (ie Calendar, Google Keep, etc)
- I only have a 1GB Fido Month-to-Month data plan. So you can tell that I don't go on LTE often.

Any recommendations are welcomed

Reasons why I want to rid of my 5x (Other than money reasons):
- Camera is a real problem. Especially with Snapchat in mind, the camera will stop working when in-app and I cannot use the stock camera nor Snapchat until I do a full reset.
- Lag occurs after only 200 hours of uptime and just gets worse and worse as I hit 500 - 600 (I started the 5x as a 'new phone' and greenify constantly). My Nexus 5 never had this problem.
- Although USB-C is excellent, phone's battery only lives up to half of the day.

Boost sucks because Sprint sucks, they've apparently been "upgrading" the service around my city for 4 fucking years and it's only marginally gotten better, my gf can't use her Volt 2 in our apartment

I love my Nexus 5x except for two things:
>Snapchat, one of my fav apps, can get slow as fuck at odd times
>Phone heats up really bad

I assume my snapchat issue is unfixable, but what about my heating issue? Is it its version of Snapdragon? What longterm or short term issues will happen if it keeps heating up? Ive only had this since Feb.
>>
>>54341834
I just got mine from and I would say it's pretty good definitely the most satisfied I've been with a phone, however I would agree with what that one guy was saying about it being fragile. I'm very paranoid about dropping it and scratching the back visor deal. One thing you could do is get one of the live cases though and those seem pretty neat from what I've read.

I have a chance of getting it for almost free, I'd flash CM on it, but I wonder if there are any issues with that phone. I don't mind plastic build, and I like the fact that it's waterproof, also SD 801 is still very good SoC.

Yuropoor with Note 3 here as well, haven't experienced any wi-fi issues at all. The phone did have serious problems with USB connection to my PC and delay in Viber/Snapchat messages, but official update (MIUI 7.2something) solved them all.

>>54342888
Flash any version of the official global stable rom via Miflash program and accept any OTA updates the phone will asked for. You can do this without unlocking the bootloader and currently it's the best option. I've heard AOSP doesn't work nearly as good and CM13 is still in development for this model. As for the case, personally I use the thin transparent rubber one I got with it, my experiences with the free cases chinks pack with their phones is they can withstand pretty much everything and keep the phone safe.

I got an iphone 4 as a gift and it's really showing it's age now. I've had it for years and am ready to upgrade, but I don't know anything about phones.

I don't want to spend a fortune, don't care about cameras and don't use many apps at all.

I have no preference for ios or android. I've never used an android device so I can't say if I would like it more or less. I definitely would like more customization, and the ability to play emulators.

I use my phone for texting and shit posting / browsing. I use straight talk as it's enexpensive and I don't have to worry about data caps and other fees

Can anyone help me at narrowing down good phone choices for me?

Its gud, I'd recommend it since it trashes all my friends phones old and new. Daily tasks are a joy to run through, it doesn't feel 2yrs old.

>>54343423
801 is solid as fuck, I can push mine to 2.9ghz and it doesn't care. Also still benchmarks like a champ, and performs consistently making it arguably better than the 810 since its actually reliable.
>>
>>54344437
Only if you root your phone and flash Cyanogen. Which I dont recommend doing since it voids your warranty and potentially bricks your phone

>>
>>54344973
Wasn't the OnePlus 2 one of the only phones that could tame the 810 somewhat? In general it wasn't exactly as spectacular as the OPO, but still a solid phone...
>>
>>54345328
Only because they underclocked it by 200mhz. The 810 was literally the worst thing Qualcomm ever produced
>>
>>54345249
>muh unreliable sd 810

I'm so tired of morons parroting the same bullshit over and over. Unless you have a first gen 810 (lg flex 2, experia z4) performance is just really good.
>>
>>54345328
Some opo users said it's true. Besides that some other anons said there are newer versions that doesn't have the overheating problem. But check sources yourself could be shills.
>>
>>54345383
Performance is good, but it's not reliable. Bearing in mind some solutions to its problems (ie latter generations) were underclocking and phase change liquid cooling. Its a bit of a disaster when you go to such extremes to resolve excessive thermal throttling.

That being said, when its not on fire it performs pretty well, blatantly more efficiently than the 801 albeit not quite the most remarkable upgrade anyway.
>>
>>54345395
>>54345370
yeah I know it wasn't fully troublefree, but >>54344973 sounded to me as if the OP2 was the only phone having the problem, but it was a 810 problem in general. fucking idiots trying to jump on the 64bit hype train and releasing the worst product possible...
>>
>>54345480
Yeah exactly. Also people tend to forget that the SD801 had overheating issues as well. Especially during video recording.

It's kinda shamefull that so much misinformation is being spread here. I would advise people to wait for the SD820 since it destroys the 810 but the 810 is still very capable and not half as bad as people make it out to be.

I'd still choose an 810 over an 808, 616 or mediatek (even though they are all very respectable in their own class) any day. Just don't get any of the release phones like the M9.

>8gb of ram

All that ram and 0 apps. GG Microsoft
>>
>>54343082
that's like 5euros
>>
>>54345569
You mean the 4k video recording issues right?
That plagued some phones, afaik it varied from 5mins to 30mins, while others coped just fine albeit running damn hot. Think I remember reading that the z3 shut down after 5mins but the z3c kept recording for like 25mins and I never understood why.

Problem with the 810 was/is that it will overheat or throttle hard with many different tasks if you push it. The 801, despite fugging with 4k, had plenty of room to deal with anything else. There's the difference, not many people will record 4k for very long (muh space lol) but considerably more will play heavy games or benchmark their phones.

820 looks good, its a home grown design so I'd expect it to be solid with Qualcomm's experience.
>kryo cores

Just add a file called

Putting a . infront of the folder name also hides it from file managers, so you need to turn show hidden folders on to see it.

Interesting, but I'm very happy with my OnePlus One. Don't need a upgrade anytime soon as CM13 (not COS, fuck that shit) is quite good with Boeffla. No stability issues, good battery, extremely good performance for being soon two year old phone.

Seems like the phone market is reaching the same point normal desktops are today soon enough. Where computers from 2011 are still perfectly viable and upgrading is a waste of money.

There's an app, I think it's Hide it Pro, it'll create a hidden folder and access it for you and the only way you can access it is through the app, even has different false faces for the app

The original OnePlus One was great because it was Nexus like in terms of update speed, openness and compatibility, added Cyanogen, and had top hardware for its time for a low price. Sadly since then they shit it up badly.

I hope the Three is again flagship and doesn't cheap out on anything like they did last with wireless charging and NFC. If they get that right, giving up on Cyanogen for their shitty OS isn't worth it . They need to make it open and Nexus like, at least.

I really do miss AMOLED because the whole panel lights up for Moto Display, and >muh AMOLED blacks.
Battery is not amazing, but it's certainly an improvement from the 2013 X, which was struggling to carry me through a day. This is able to get me through my day with 50% left (usually ~3 hrs OST). It also heats up far less than my 2013 X.

I make a lot fewer typing errors with the larger screen. I have noticed I read a lot more ebooks/comics and watch more on Plex/Netflix because the screen is so nice. I don't feel comfortable one-handing it, but not one-handing at all times isn't as much of a deal-breaker as I once thought it would be.
I would love to see a 5.2" version of this, or at least one I can use with one hand without worrying I might drop it.
I have not yet dropped it so I cannot attest to durability.
Overall, I think this will last me 2 years, assuming I don't drop it. I don't think I will (it feels slippery yet grippy enough that I feel somewhat confident in it, hard to describe).

What's a good carrier (north east usa) that can beat virgin mobile? I currently pay $35/ mo prepaid. Unlimited texts, LTE coverage is decent since it's sprint based. The big downside is you can only buy their SIM-locked phones. I.e I wanted a 2gb Moto G and had to buy the 1gb ram one because virgin doesn't offer the better model. It should be so much better than it is. Marshmallow introduced a storage glitch that causes my phone to bug out whenever I try to view some folders in my gallery app. 32gb storage, 24gb user accessible. It would be 10/10 if root was possible, but because root isn't an option at the moment, i have to say I wish I would have gone for the LG G4. I really like the cameras and the assurance that my screen will not break.
