Not just any trash can but a $5000 trash can for the rich people who have expensive trash.

It doesn't compare to anything because it's so garbage. It's fucking garbageception - looks like a trash bin and destined for one.

Hard to compare it to anything. It has a few use cases where it excels (Mainly video and photo editing where the thunderbolt can actually be used to link to large external hard drives) and build server (for larges applications such as chromium, it's almost required to have that kind of power).
But for the "home" user it's shit. Better get a Mac Mini or go all in and get an iMac.
>>54339375
I don't get this thing at all. They were perfect with the old Mac pro. I don't see how they come up with this. Probably just a test to see what they can get away with.

Wow when did EC sell out to Apple?
basically workstations with X79 (or whatever chipset workstations use), xeons and dual firepro cards
mac pro is pricey af
you can build and set up a hackintosh far more powerful for the price and inside an mitx case roughly the same size

In both of those cases a traditional server or pc is better for the price.

some may say it looks cool and it's a pretty capable weapon
but the design serves no purpose other than looking cool and being over complicated, and looks outdated almost as soon as it came out.

A plant pot.
Models topped with CPU and RAM would be OK for workstation but the GPU shit would go to total waste with me. I would rather have more drives, RAM or CPU cores.

Or is the entire point that they want me to pay out the ass for external storage on the proprietary mDP bus?

Op do yourself a favor and buy a pair of e5-2670s for $100 on eBay, get 64gb of ecc ddr3 for $100 on eBay, a super micro dual 2011 socket board for $200 on eBay, and get a full tower case with a new evga 850 watt Nova that's gold rated($100 new currently)
Then get full tower case and a few refurb hgst 2tb drives from newegg($75 each) raid 1 those and buy a Toshiba q300 480gb(like less than 200) and a triple dissipation xfx fury card(double the GFLOPS/s throughput of 980ti and bam you just spend less than 1500 and will shit on Mac pro

Imagine if you took a pretty average workstation and then sacrificed expandability and performance so that you could cram it into a small form factor. You know, the thing that the people buying them don't give two shits about.
