are dedicated sound card worth it for music ?
i have an on bard realtek ALC888 and a 250ohm headphones.
bean listening for hours, i hear no noise/parasite whatsoever, the sound is loud and clear.
i was supposed to get a dedicated sound card when i bought my high impedance headphones, but my on board chip^seem to be up to the task.
what's your experience ?

don't fall for the audiophile meme lad

I bought a separate little USB soundcard because using an analog microphone on the default soundcard on Linux somehow lets a lot of noise in

Sure. But I dont notice a difference in quality at all
I got a USB interface (uphobia? I think) on my main computer as well as a Scarlet 2i4 on my recording PC.
It's nice to have that little volume knob on your desk, easy to access. My headphone lines are significantly shorter too, so less snagging

In which case a good sound or other source will likely benefit you. Make sure your PC power supply is up to scratch though. Sound cards actually suck for low impedance headphones though, in which case you'd be better off getting a Magni or something equivalent if you feel you actually need more power. Try to find a place where you can plug your cans into a good source to see if you really can hear the difference first if you can.
What country are you from, OPEEH

My onboard audio on my Z97Mplus rocks.
Back in the 90's-early 2000's when mobos had terrible intergrated sound processors the imfamous AC97 you NEEDED a soundcard if you wanted decent sound but now alot of intergrated sound chips are very high quality.
