Why aren't usb graphics cards for laptops a thing?

Why aren't usb graphics cards for laptops a thing?

sounds like a meme

USB has too little bandwidth and too much latency.
>>
>>54332488
I don't know.

Is it technically feasible?

I think the laptop would have to be wired for it.

Also making a decent graphic card small enough to fit in a USB dongle, not sure if that's possible.

because alieneware is better

They are a thing. And they suck because of the limitations of USB. You're in luck however, check out thunderbolt 3 external GPU's.

What a time to be alive.
>>
>>54332513
Also true of usb-c?
>>
>>54332513
USB 3.0 has a 5 GB/s bandwith. That's more than enough.
>>
>>54332552
5 Gb/s, not 5GB/s.Very different things.

>>54332545
Also true.

It's becoming a thing. Razer is releasing this thing called a core which allows you to plug in any GPU through USB-C. Supposed to be pretty good I guess.
>>
>>54332569
True. That makes 625 MB/s. That's not that much but you can probably make an upgrade from an onboard graphic with this.
>>
Thunderbolt external GPUs are a thing. Thunderbolt had DMA which makes it adequately fast

How are those two numbers different, for the dummies out there?
>>
>>54332488
Low bandwidth
>>
>>54332686
Numbers? Do you know what a unit is?
>>
>>54332686
gigabit (gb) is 1 bit
gigabyte (GB) is 8 bits or 1 byte.
>>
>>54332686
GB = Gigabyte or 1000MB
Gb = Gigabit or 125MB
>>
>>54332711
I don't know the difference between a GB and a Gb.
>>
>>54332721
i mean 1k bits and 8k bits derp
>>
>>54332746
i mean million not thousand fuck im retarded
>>
>>54332659
>It takes more than 22 gb/s to play a video.
>>
>>54332686
1 byte = 8 bits.
In this case it's only 5 gigabits per second (Gb/s), 5 gigabits is only 0.625 gigabytes which is ~625 megabytes.

In the end 5 GB/s = 5000 MB/s while 5Gb/s = 625 MB/s
>>
>>54332599
Wrong. It's any thunderbolt 3 port, which happens to use the C connector. It won't work in a USB only port.
>>
>>54332735
They're two different units but with the same prefix.
>>
>>54332863

If it's USB-C would it not work on any computer that has the same functioning USB-C connector? I don't see how what I said is wrong.
