Setting up a Ubuntu server to use as an email server. I intend to do more than just that, so I want a DE. Anyone have any suggestions on a nice lightweight DE I can use? I'm leaning towards lxde or mate

If you absolutely have to, get openbox with no login manager then logout when you're done changing things.

I'm aware that a DE is counter what you would normally do with a server. But I will need to be able to do some things that a DE is required for, like use the internet through a browser.

I've never used openbox, is it easy to learn?

I use openbox with no extra panels or anything and its fine if you configure your menu, or just launch things from terminal.
But I think you can XFCE tier panels and stuff too, with like arch bang

Ok, cool, I'll try openbox.
Thanks /g/entoomen.

Prepare for pain

I know. It's mostly a learning experience and a way to have a much more professional email than [email protected]

Trust me, don't bother and just get a mailbox from your domain provider. You will go crazy, guaranteed.

Honestly you should learn the terminal first and forget the DE plan.

Why do you need a browser on server ?

Man you're funny, you don't even know how to properly use the command line and want to set up a mail server? If you only knew how complicated setting up a mail server is.. and the problems that come with it
