Software is personal preference, I like the amount of customization you can have with miui like app preferences and the various settings. Most unwanted apps can be disabled/uninstalled and Nova + GAPPs work perfectly fine
Only downsides are camera quality (no major concerns but low light is bad) and rear speaker

Next step up budget wise is the snapdragon redmi note 3 pro. Faster than flagships that were just $800 like the S6 and G4.
