Let's discuss the potential of Web 3.0. I can't seem to wrap my head around it. I feel like an old person who doesn't understand new tech. Maybe it's because it hasn't been fully realized yet. I also feel like Web 3.0 could take the fun out of surfing the web as your results would be predetermined.

it's all a bunch of bullshit buzzwords. you don't need to understand it because it's all intentionally vague and it's used to sell products and services. smart phones, the cloud, web, mashup, IoT. there are no clear and definitive pieces of software for these applications anymore, they're becoming very abstract techniques that are promised to be done reliably by companies.
We're already at web3.0.

web 3.0 sounds really lame. The step to 2.0 was big because we got dynamic content. I don't see any big leaps from 2 to 3 though.

Nothing to do with XML
it's a way of structure data to refer to real world things.
for example if you said president of USA 09-16 or Obama or Barack or Barack Obama they all look like different things to a computer. But using things like OWL(which can be written in other forms than XML like turtle)
you can refer to an entity that is that person and then if the computer came across some article talking about the person married to Michelle Obama it could, by graph pattern matching, know who it's referring to.
tl;dr
Uses entities instead of strings. Don't need fancy language interpreter parsers
