I had to run it that way, because a radiator fits on the side of the case directly over the GPU. A 240mm. If the radiator was externally mounted, it would have been an extremely simple loop. Sadly it's not the case. lol

You guys are experts, I want to buy a new case (regular ATX size) maximum 100 Eurobucks (about $100 in the US)

I saw Anandtech had a review of the new Corsair 400Q or something but it doesn't support optical drives and only allows for two HDDs
I don't use optical media but I might need it for work sometime

What would you suggest?

>>
>>54343229
Sorry to break it to you, but they are not 'industrial' fans; they come from exact same factory, use exact same ball bearings and the plastic have 99% same composure as those shit colored ones.
There is no 'industrial' PC fans in size of 120/140mm.

Just buy NF-P12, its the only Noctua fan that no longer has good competitor as Nicon made Gentle Typhoons are no longer manufactured.
>>
>>54343353
The consumer version goes up to 1500RPM

The industrial version comes in 2000RPM or 3000RPM as well as IP67 certified versions.
>>
>>54343384
So, higher RPM now makes a 'industrial' fan? Its just marketing bullshit to make you think that the fans are of higher quality (not that they arent; my oldest NF-P12 is working nice and quiet after eight years of 24/7 use).
>>
>>54343406
>doesn't know what IP67 certification is

alright buddy, i'm just asking if anyone has experience with them, they're obviously not the same fans as the consumer model, stop acting like you actually know what you're talking about when it's obvious you've never used them.
>>
>>54343406
Also, the noise-cooling performance ratio goes out of the window at higher than 1500RPM on 120mm fans. 1200RPM is the best compromise on NF-P12 as well. 120mm Gentle Typhoon somehow managed to be more quiet than NF-P12 at 1400RPM and had slighlty more air pressure.

>>54343445
Sure i do, i use many devices on work that use IP standards.
I'm just saying that those 'consumer' versions apply to exact same standards (even if Noctua doesnt say so), because the build is 100% same between 'industrial' Noctua 120mm fan (sorry, i dont remember the model name) and NF-P12.
>>
>>54343514
First off, i'm not even talking about 120mm model, I am talking about 140mm.

Secondly they are going to be used on a water cooling radiator, so high static pressure, as well as IP67 certification are both a big bonus (if the fan is water resistant it doesn't matter if your rad leaks).

The "normal" 140mm Noctuas, the consumer model, state a static pressure of 2.08mm H20.
The industrial model at 2000RPM does 4.18mm and the 3000RPM model does 10.52mm

2.08mm compared to 10.52mm of static pressure is a fairly significant difference in performance.

You're telling me the consumer version is the exact same shit, well show me how to get 10.52 mm of static pressure for the consumer model and i'll buy it.

And is explained by the higher RPM.

>well show me how to get 10.52 mm of static pressure for the consumer model and i'll buy it
Replace thermistor. Or give voltage higher than 12V (not a good idea, because your 'industrial' fan cant even deal with slight overvoltage).
OK, i'm wrong: they are not the exact same fans, because they have different thermistor (and different colored plastics) that gives different RPM@12V, 7V and 5V. But the construction is the same, as are the ball bearings.

If you really need that higher RPM (with higher static pressure of course), then sure, its probably better to buy your tough as nails 'industrial' fans with 50% higher price, but to make you appreciate marketing bullshit, buy the 'consumer' version as well and test if they both keep moisture and dust out of bearings as succesfully.

I was never denying the bearing is the same, i mean it's based directly off the consumer model. I just prefer the aesthetics and want the higher performance covered under the 6 year warranty.

I'm sure the consumer version does a fine job at dust/water resistance, but it isn't specifically rated for it, and if it fails because of water damage or similar, it wouldnt be covered under warranty unlike the industrial model.

and as a final point, the industrial model costs about $28 vs. $21 for the normal. So not double the cost.

>Running it for any longer doesn't increase temps significantly, and it's just pointless labor.
leave it for 24 or 48 hours and i can be you will probably reach over 70c.
>>
>>54344204
I sleep with a window open, and ambient temps at night will get down to 10C. Window is near my computer, and with any breeze will intake nearly directly into the back of the case. It will peak on a sunny day mid afternoon, which would not be until Late June/early July. Maybe then.

But until then, I don't hate this computer enough to do that to it.
>>
>>54344204
This, the temps rise slowly, but surely. If you get 65C after 15 mins, it might rise a another ten in two hours.
15 minutes in prime is not enough of stability testing.
>>
>>54344430
but why torture test it if all I do is moderate gayming and web browsing?

For Photoshop I'd recommend a Xeon 1231v3. 4 cores 8 threads, basically an i7 with no integrated graphics at an i5 price range. Works on any 1150 mobo too. Or you can wait for zen to drop.

>>
>>54344430

Prime is overkill. All you're probably doing by leaving prime on for hours is degrading your CPU. Besides most errors will pop up in the first couple of minutes
>>
>>54344533
With cpu+gpu stress you might get even higher cpu socket and vrm temps because of added heat of gpu (and psu), than you get with cpu torture testing, even if cpu doesnt reach as high usage during gaming.

If you are not sure that the cpu is stable (having enough vcore for the clock), you might encounter all kinds of (unnoticable at first) errors during gaming without the software even crashing.

>Besides most errors will pop up in the first couple of minutes
'Most', sure. With FX8350 (and other Piledrivers) cores have started failing after just 40 minutes, after 2,5 hours and even after 48 hours. If you want to get the lowest vcore (and thus lowest power usage and heat), you need to test stability for a long while.

>leaving prime on for hours is degrading your CPU
Cpu's at smaller than 32nm die maybe and just maybe. Its the temps that dictate any damage and if you stay within acceptable temps, you wont damage the cpu in any way.

Overkill, all righty. If you are ok with unstable systems, its not my problem really.
>>
>>54344817
And i have heard so many times the cries of 'why my system does something crazy' when 'unexplainable' errors occur, that i first ask if the person is overclocking and if so, how have you tested the stability and it almost always turns out they have done 15 mins of prime, because 'its enough'.
>>
>>54344878
I've had it at 4.7ghz/1.55vc for about two months now. My only real worry is to see how it handles summer temps.
>>
>>54344878
I'm sometimes to lazy for intensive prime testing. I just use it and lower or raise settings.

>>
>>54344983
really? 1.55?

what is your idle temp?
>>
>>54343634

Well, I can't see them in HWMonitor or Asus's own temperature program. But holy fuck does the heatsink directly above my graphics card get hot. My finger gets seriously burned after only half a second. I'd love to find out the actual temperature on that fucker.

Stock clock on my FX-6200 aswell but I've disabled a bunch of the energy saving features in BIOS because they caused something to buzz with a high frequency noise, probably a VRM or something.

You guys consider Prime as the only worthy tool , but what about IBT ?
My Oc seems to be IBT( 20 run @ very high ) stable , doesnt crash/freeze/reboot in days but still fail to pass a 12h run of P95

Does this still mean im not stable ?
2500k user by the way.
>>
>>54348108
>fail to pass a 12h run of P95

If it can't even do a 24h P95 test I would never consider it "stable"

it might be stable enough that it doesn't cause you any issues, but it isn't stable.

Most modern boards have a dual-keyed slot that supports both M.2 and mSATA. You just need to read the specs to see.

Fresh new build. with no LEDs.

Originally this chip came stock at 1.330v for some reason, so I downvolted to 1.290 and OCed to 4.5GHz.

The chip went all the way to 4.8GHz at 1.435v stable, but it honestly wasn't worth the thermals.

I think I hit a real sweet spot, this chip sits nice and toasty at ~60c full load with p95
>>

The board im using now (msi gayming 5) has an nvme ready m.2 slot
>>
>>54349834
Good for you not letting those stock fans in the roof would bother you.
>>
>>54350276

I NEARLY went and bought another 3 noctua fans.

Then I remembered i bought a gaymeng mobo with lots of bios level fan control features, so the stock fans only turn on when CPU core hits 60c, and ramp up to 100% as it goes to 70c.

Posting in these threads is surprisingly addictive. Anyone got suggestions for a 280mm AiO? I'm planning on mounting it to the front so i guess i'll need longis tubes for it. Also i don't know shit about fans, is fluid bearing bad? And of course r8 h8 masturb8 deb8 and all that gud shit.

Weren't you the guy with those SSD temp problems? The Sapphire cards are good but you should expect housefires in your case if you can't get any airflow.

Not when you activate HairWorks, which means maxed.

My 780Ti doesn't even reach 50 FPS on 4K all lowest. But this game is shit anyway.

>>
>>54359165
I run a 780Ti, everything is fixed. They just gimped them. I get strange crashes and blackscreens with the newer drivers, so I installed 2015 ones to avoid this.

I know my card can't max it in 4K, but it should be able to create at least min-60 FPS on medium without MSAA or hairworks.
>Pro tip: It's not the VRAM, only 2 GB will be used when I lower everything to the bottom
Its just a shitty game that doesn't even run well on Nvidia
>>

The gimping meme needs to die, nobody gimped your 780ti they just stopped giving it driver support. There are so many expirement a on this topic.

Even then, this will also happen to the 900 series. I'm probably going to buy the 1080Ti, AMD won't be better. I could change my opinion if I see the 200 series getting support after Polaris/Vega launch.
>>
>>54356232
Yeah that's me. I'm hoping switching to an R9 Nano and adding a 120mm case fan in the spot where there used to be 390 heatsink should alleviate the problem. Also upgrading to a i7 and 1tb ssd since this may be my main rig.

Question regarding Guts.

I've got a closed loop cooler for my CPU. If I have it running outside air over the radiator and into the case all my temps are safe and fine.

But if I flip it, so it pulls case air over the radiator and pushes out my CPU temp goes up 6c at max, but all my other temps go down 6-8c.

Which would you do?
>>
>>54360284
What the fuck are you doing with all of those capacitors
>>
>>54364136
Coil gun. That's one of 3 banks.
>>
>>54363423
Keep cooler blowing in, and add another fan if you really care to pull other fresh air in from outside.

It is loud for a PC fan, but not unbearable depending on case and lots of factors.
>>54343353
The moment you said it is the same plastic shit I already knew you were full of shit.
Also the bearing is already superb, you do not need a different bearing to make an industrial fan.
Look them up from some tests and the specs agan and you will know that the feel is similar of the material, but it is actually a different composition as it is a fiberglass reinforced polyamid.
Then you also got a different a 3 phase motor compared to 1 phase and 2 phase ones.
