I'm looking for a new laptop that's light, has 16GB of RAM, and has a SSD.
Alternatively, it doesn't have to come with 16GB of RAM, if it gives me the ability to install my own RAM and SSD(which many companies are preventing me from doing so because soldered RAM).

T420
But in all seriousness, get an X1 Carbon or someshit like that

What do you need 16GB of ram for?
fully loaded x220

What is 16GB of ram good for anyways? When would you need it?

I'm thinking about getting a Thinkpad p50 for college, according to notebook check it's pretty great other than a turbo-boost issue their review model had.

This is the cheapest, lightest option with what you asked for. You'll have to buy the ram. Built quality is surprisingly decent.

How light is light? I consider a w520 light. What's your budget? x220 are cheap as fuck, support 16gb of ram, can have an ips panel, can install your own ssd, and the sandybridge cpu holds it's own even against skylake cpu.
If you're looking for somthing new and shiny, x1carbon, Dell Xps, x260, t460s, razerblade stealth(8gb is ram)
XPS13 or Razor Blade Stealth but both are limited on the ram (8GB) do you really need 16?

Weight: I'm looking at 3 pounds or less.
Budget: 1k USD, based in America

Need 16? No.

Yeah the RBS is $999 with the best specs at that price point if you can manage the 8GB of ram.
