Will automatic doors ever become a thing in homes?
>>
>>54312894
only if we make it so
>>
>>54312894
It's completely unnecessary and inconvenient.
>>
>>54313307

Just like touch interfaces instead of knobs that are always in the same place inside cars.
And it's still becoming a thing.
>>
yes of course they will

they probably are now, in some weird upper class homes
>>
we allready have more than all the technology for everyone to programm their own automatic doors, I mean you buy a microcontroller and a servo and thats pretty much it. it wouldnt even be that expensive, depends how much torque do you need (how heavy are the doors you want to control)
>>
>>54312894
In offices or schools probably yes. At homes - no, definitely no. There's no use for them at home, as they will compromise the privacy of your bedroom while you are banging you wife's son.

If I had to guess, the main problems are as follows:
A. Rotating automatic doors are somewhat hazardous in the small enclosed spaces of most homes, and
B. Sliding automatic doors are not very feasible because:
-There isn't really any room inside the wall
-There isn't really any room ON the wall (furniture often occupies this space, and the walls might not even be long enough)
-Good sliding door mechanisms are pricey and nobody wants to pay for them.

No. Manual doors will always be cheaper. There's no definitive use case. It's like flying cars. Why blow all that energy to float instead of go faster?

All interior room doors in a house should be like this, with a cut out on the bottom

-Better circulation of air throughout your house
-Robot vacuum cleaners (like the Roomba) can more efficiently get into every room of your house
-Cat can crawl underneath without howling/pawing at the door

>b-b-but my privacy! Mom can see my feet when I'm naked!
Get out of your parent's house already.

Wouldn't this look better?
>>
>>54317698
-"better circulation" is not always optimal, especially for those without central heating/air conditioning
-only toolbags use robot vacuum cleaners, rich people pay someone else to clean their house and poor people make their kids do it
-again, your pet always being able to get into the room is not optimal (unless your cat likes it when you cum on him)

doors have been around for hundreds of years, if there were any advancements to be made, they would have already been made

so what's the point of the door? At that point just put some curtains in the doorway.
All doors should be sliding. Fuck swinging doors.

As soon as slightly-less NFC becomes a thing, so that handleless doors can be feasible while still having a lock.

I grew up in a house with noiseless sliding doors without locks everywhere. They weren't automatic but just slid by hand.

It was hell, just knowing everyone could enter my room without a noise while I'm wanking.

You dumb faggots we've had automatic doors for years. Go to any store, there is a motion sensor that opens two sliding doors. We don't use them in a home because it takes up too much space for the door to slide into the wall, which means the wall must be hollowed, or expensively insulated.

They are not as secure as typical doors, and rely on mechanical means which can fail. Those parts are fucking expensive.

Have any of you ever owned anything your parents didnt buy and had to also buy it yourself? MUH XBOX!.

i HATE ALL OF YOU.

Why are all of you retarded children? I'm sorry, I'm wrong for that, you fucking autists.

>>54323024
What's the point of manual overriding if everyone can do that?
And before you say you can only override with a fingerprint for instance, It's more practical to program a system that disables the security on extreme cases
>>
I was in japan a bit ago. Theirs doors that unlock and open for you when you lock your car, was pretty nifty i guess. Only saw it at one place. They also had a flatscreen installed in front of the bath
>>
>>54313558
I only ever feel comfortable if I'm by myself in my bedroom with the door locked. It doesn't matter if anyone else is in the house or not.

What's even the point of an automatic door? It's a barrier that only exists when there's nothing to block, and which vanishes as soon as something approaches. Functionally it's the same as an open space.
>>
>>54324512
Yeah until you live in Japan and have to deal with their archaic 1940s way of doing anything remotely official, the Japan is the future meme can go fuck itself.
>>
>>54324588
Are you retarded or a troll?

It keeps air inside in the case of heating or cooling, prevents smaller animals and bugs from having access etc.
>>
>>54324512

>>
>>54312894
I think it's a bad idea, because like... you're waiting on the door, and what if there's no electricity, along with no backup unit?

In a situation like that, you're kinda fucked, no? I'd assume, though, that a emergency open mechanism would be implemented...

Just seems annoying to wait for the door to open when one is fully capable of opening the damn door.
