What's the best switch for someone who games and types? Should I just get 2 keyboards? Currently own browns, tried Green and Blue but both felt weird and sounded really loud. Maybe topre?

Hey guys, I gonna buy a chink PCB and Cherry brown switches, something like this guy did:
https://imgur.com/a/prcIW#d4wpsbr
He says that the PCB support backlighting and my question is about to buy rgb cherry switches or buy simple cherry switches and leds.
If you can recommend me a nice keycaps, I'll appreciate.
This will be my first mech keyboard and in my 3rd world country I can't buy something that surpass 200$usd for customs and taxes issues.

How loud are self made keyboards compared to black widow ultimate shit razor edition? I want to get off "gaming" keyboards while staying mechanical but not so loud that I wake my roomates up while coding @night
>>
>>54297243
Noise depends primarily on the choice of switches, secondly on the case (floating keys vs. closed case) and on whether you're using any dampening solutions.

Just get a keyboard with non-clicky switches and you should be fine.

I know its your typical cheap chinese gamer-core keyboard but It had a simple sleek look to it, and it matched my mouse colours for only £20, also first mechanical keyboard; black switches, felt weird, hard to push down at first and metaly feel at first but it actually feels really nice and satisfying now. with some more money I will try out some blue switches.

very tall, if I wasn't killing my wrists beforehand I'm surely killing them now. it also makes the board sound different, especially the spacebar which now has this sort of click that it hadn't before.

it's very attractive though, which I assume is 99% of the reason people like it.

Alright I'm gonna try this template out and see if you guys can help me finding a keyboard that will work for me.

>Budget
Maximum $250
>Location (continent at least)
Sweden so I need the ÅÄÖ keys.
>Preferred switch type
I'm not really sure here but Cherry Blue might be nice. I type alot and I like to feel a distinct click. The sound however is harder cause I have never heard what they sound like IRL. Maybe green once?
>Layout
Again I'm not sure but since I'm in Europe I think IOS is more common.
>Form factor
100% or 80% any thing less would probably mess to much with my head.
>Backlight
Yes, I would like RGB mostly because I don't care for the normal red, white, green and blue. I like yellow and pink and the like. And no keyboards I have found comes with this except RGB boards sadly.

That's about it. Any help would be greatly apprisiated. I have only ever used one mechanical keyboard before with red Kailh switches and I didn't like that there where no real click. And the board broke about a year after I got it. So consider me a noob.

I want MAXIMUM COMFY. What's a keyboard with good ergonomics but a standard layout? Might be willing to do the ten keyless + numpad on left side, though my shoulders are fairly wide to begin with.

I have a kalih keyboard right now. Switches are nice, but the keycaps are slippery bullshit. Should I replaced keycaps or get a new board?

gray alpha blue mods is a pretty common color scheme, not so sure about the other way around.

white alpha gray mods is going to be like a high contrast granite (personally I don't like it very much)

also make sure that profiles match, I believe Leopold has a weird profile for their stock caps.

But it is over now and all the leftovers are up for sale. They will ship pretty soon if you place an order.

The backup SP/PMK has on keycap sets is absolutely ridiculous. Up to like half a year now.

Only decent GB I participated in was Leeku's Compact SQ. From open of IC to delivery was like 5 weeks.
>>
>>54304718
Custom keysets can't be any sort of priority for them?

I mean I'm in Granite and from my order to it's delivery it's gonna have been ~5 months

also in Pulse and that will take ~6 months for the same
>>
>>54304755
>Custom keysets can't be any sort of priority for them?

They probably make a whole hell of a lot more selling custom keycaps to businesses. A lot less customer service mess too.

But you have to keep in mind that SP is like 10 machines total. They aren't exactly capable of heavy production. They also have a HUGE amount of orders recently, especially for SA.

Mostly people use a Teensy 2.0 because that's what TMK is mainly built for. You can use anything that is on https://github.com/tmk/tmk_keyboard/wiki/Compatible-Microcontrollers, really. The most common are the Teensy 2.0 and the cheap Pro Micro clones.

>>
>>54314766

>>
>>54314766
>Are they mechanical
Any keyboard is technically mechanical. But, its about as mechanical as a model m.
They're spring and slider over rubber dome and membrane.
I actually really like the way they feel. If you clean them out with some compressed air they feel almost brand new. (assuming your board wasn't treated like shit)
But for $4 you did good.
>>
>>54315259
I'm taking the caps off now to cleaning them out and painting a few while I wait for an adapter to come in.
I love how it feels to type on. Are there any mechanical switches that feel like this with more resistance and clickyness?
>>
>>54315335
There isn't a whole lot that feel like them (from what all I've tested at least)
A model M or F would be about the closest thing you would be after.
Also, make sure you wipe down your membrane sheets with some isopropyl alcohol.
>>
>>54297676
i would literally kill someone for that
>>
>>54315490

I just got a Ducky One with blues

It's my first mechanical keyboard

I quite enjoy it, it's a bit louder than I expected but you get used to it
>>
>>54315759
Well, I said to wipe down the sheets in case dirt had gotten in them over time. It helps insure key presses are registered when they're clean.
My model M had some dirty sheets and wouldn't register some keys when I first got it. As soon as I cleaned the sheets, it was 100%.

For dying the caps just look up something like "iDye poly pbt dying". There are a lot of guides about doing it right. Also, the Fujitsu has some windowed caps on them. I'm not sure how to deal with those when you dye them. Putting them in the boiling water and dye might fuck them up.
>>
>>54315899
I'll have to come up with something to do about the window bits.
How can I tell what plastic the caps are made out of? Or should I just try boiling one now.

I wonder if I should do it with the upper casing too.
>>
>>54315879
You'll get used to it very quickly.
>>
>>54316163
Put a little bit of acetone on the bottom of a cap (other than the space bar), if it damages it, its abs. Or drop them in water and see if they float. If they do, they're abs.
They should be pbt though IIRC.
Also, keep in mind that the space bar is pretty much guaranteed to be abs.
