Alright, /g/. This shit puzzles me. I updated my LG G3 to Marshmallow and suddenly a portion of the screen stops responding to touch. I then downgrade thinking it could be a bug with the new OS and the same shit happens on older OS. Is it a hardware issue then? There are no cracks or damages to the screen.
>>
>>54288661
Did you try wiping it completely and then flashing kitkat? also theres touch testing apps, try those and see if it responds at all.
>>
>>54288495
yes, it should be possible, although sometimes apps need playstore services and other things to function - what most android images don't deliver, so you would have to tinker around or find a full matching tutorial to make this work.
>>
>>54288714
I had a cheap android phone which I used for tinder and I just accidentally smashed it. And need it because am meeting up with someone off there later.

Trying to work out the easiest way of getting back onto tinder without going and buying a new phone. I have a chromebook, laptop with lubuntu and old thinkpad with windows 7. whats the easiet way?
>>
>>54288341

Yeah I do, I don't know why you are having problems though it just seems to work for me.
>>
>>54288742
for chrome theres that android apps emulator thing (just quickly google it up) - maybe that could work.

you could also try amiduos or bluestacks on windows to emulate the android apps. (the easier way I think)

Yep it was a complete flash and back to Lollipop from Marshmallow. These are the lines that appear. A vertical line that doesn't register touch. I could try Cyanogenmod aswell but I'm sort of sceptical on that.
>>
>>54288827
does the multitask onscreenbutton work? it seems really weird, because some parts in that dead area are still working fine. I don't know if cyanogenmod could do anything about this, but trying is ofcourse the best you can do - seems more like an actual hardware failure though. Also what if you landscape (turning the actual landscape mode on, not just rotating the phone physically) the phone, does the dead area still stay or does it rotate too?
>>
>>54288922
Multitask button works. When I turn landscape mode on, then the dead spot remains at the same spot. But yeah when I think about it, it does seem like hardware failure. I think I'm going to send it in for repair since G3 is a pretty damn good phone.
>>
>>54289045
I have the G3 laying around here too and the battery dies (literally - the phone restarts itself because of that) after some time, its a well known problem, so if they offer you to get another phone for a bit more up-price, I would recommend on doing it, because the original batteries I had seen, cost around 30$ or are some cheap chinese rip-offs that dont hold even 1 hour of charge. good luck anon.

Nope, just make it less likely for someone to crack it and less convenient for you because you have to type 100 keys.

That way you risk losing your keys and with them access to your files. Also if someone gets their hands on that script (and probably the rest of the data on the card) all your added security is for naught since they now know which files to use in which order.
Just pick a strong passphrase, maybe two, change them every few months and you're good to go.

This depends upon so many factors it's ridiculous.
The fastest way to crack any sufficiently safe encryption is to bribe someone and/or cave their head in so they'll tell you the password.
>>
>>54290110
That's dependent on the strength of the password
A strong enough password and modern encryption is practically immune to cracking by current means

So I'm trying to copy over a large amount of tv shows and movies from an old HDD with some bad sectors to a new one. Occasionally some of the files will be in one of the bad sectors so Windows takes ages trying to copy, then eventually throws up an error. If I try to cancel the copy process then half the time windows explorer does that thing where it crashes and dissappears. I can get it back with running explorer.exe but then it won't open any explorer windows anymore.

So does anyone have any tips either for a better method of moving this data, fixing the problem with explorer or maybe even doing a scan that tells me what files are stored in bad areas, so I can know to just avoid them?

This is a digitizer failure. I know because the same shit happened to me twice in the last month. First my LG G2 did it, then I bought a BLU Life One X to replace it and it did it too. Xubuntu, like others suggested, is a good choice for your babby steps.

I personally would suggest Crunchbang or a similar distro, since it is basic enough to function for everyday tasks, but for some other ones will require you to mess around with configs a bit, teaching you in the process.

Crunchbang is also very lightweight, using Midori as my web browser I use around 300-400MBs of RAM.

>>54289963
No, Intel is superior because most coders are lazy.

Most programs work on 1-2 cores and intel has better single core performance.
AMD single core performance sucks so they add more cores to compensate the lack of power.
AMD cpus are inefficient as fuck too when it comes to how much energy they use.

AMD APUs are good because the "powerful" IGPU.
>>

Because its a IGPU so i wouldn't really call it powerful but does the job really well, better than intel IGPUs.

For a low end computer where you will never add a GPU it would be great.

I'm completing the chapter exercises for the Java book I'm using and I'm curious about this one.

// Calculate future investment. The formula for computing a future investment is:
// futureInvestmentValue = investmentAmount * (1 + monthlyInterestRate)^numberOfYears*12

import java.util.Scanner;
public class Chapter2_PE_2_21 {

public static void main(String[] args) {
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter investment amount: ");
double investmentAmount = input.nextDouble();
System.out.print("Enter annual interest rate in percentage: ");
double monthlyInterestRate = input.nextDouble();
System.out.print("Enter number of years: ");
double numberOfYears = input.nextDouble();

double futureInvestmentValue = investmentAmount * Math.pow( (1 + monthlyInterestRate), (numberOfYears * 12));

System.out.println("Accumulated value is $" + futureInvestmentValue);

}

}

According to the book, I should get something like this if I enter the specified values:
Enter investment amount: 1000.56
Enter annual interest rate in percentage: 4.25
Enter number of years: 1
Accumulated value is $1043.92

Instead, I get:
Enter investment amount: 1000.56
Enter annual interest rate in percentage: 4.25
Enter number of years: 1
Accumulated value is $4.386870130773197E11

I'm pretty sure it's a math error in futureInvestmentValue but it "looks" right to my babby eyes. What should I change about my math?

I have always had this problem. Linux freezes/crashes every time I use it. Doesn't matter the distro; Arch Linux, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE. I have been trying to install Ubuntu Server for the past 30 minutes and it has frozen twice in random areas of the install for fucks sake. I also think this was a problem with OpenBSD as well but I don't remember if this is the case. The system does not crash or freeze on Windows ever however, and I don't think Microsoft is fucking my shit up because Linux also froze when I completely replaced Windows with Linux. What the fuck do I do? The only solution I can see is giving up this buggy as fuck operating system but I genuinely enjoy it and wish I didn't have to.

>what is systemd and why do people dislike it

systemd is responsible for starting and maintaining system services(i.e., it's an init system), people dislike it because systemd is extending into areas that you typically don't want an init system to extend to and is doing stuff in a very problematic (for lack of a better term) manner and the developers attitudes to complaints, bug reports, issues, is very blasé

Hi guys, I tried to set up a NAS with my raspberry pi following this guide :
http://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-nas/

on my home network it works like a charm, so I went outside and connected my laptop to my phone's 4G and attempted to ssh into the pi :
ssh [email protected]

and then, nothing happened, the terminal was pending (my laptop is running ubuntu 16.04)

so my question is : how do I access my server via a computer that's connected to another network ? Maybe it's a stupid question but that's why we're here, I did this only to learn a little about servers.

Just download the W7 ISO from Mydigitallife pastebin and crack it, or try to use the same key if it works.

I have a thinkpad x201 which is quite old but I don't wanna change it just yet

It keeps overheating (
/sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp
reports 100 sometimes) and when it's over 100, it just shuts down

In idle mode it ranges about 44, but I often run long machine learning algorithms and that's when it dies. In order to clean it, I just open it up a bit and blow into the fan, and surprisingly it fixes the issue for maybe several days, after which it starts overheating again

So you hop on your distro and program 1 is bugging out,your search on line and find a bugtracker that has the bug filed properly,the dev says it will be pushed in the next version which is still being dev'd as it is a milestone release.

Show me a distro that will make its own edit to softare from upstream.Having to create their own code from scratch to fix the bug,that might introduce new bugs which the distro has to then fix the chain.
So no,that isnt how it happens
