>LONG TERM SUPPORT
>buggy and unstable piece of shit just like the last LTS

Holy shit. They are just as bad as Microsoft. Why are LTS operating systems never stable? They had one job. One job not to fuck it up. Mark Shuttleworth is the cancer of Linux.
>>
You know the really stable version will be 16.04.1? That's the version servers get updates for.
>>
Too much focus on UX, no focus on technology

There's always redhat, which puts literal chimpanzees in charge of UX (gnome) and autists that main windows or OS X in charge of technology (lennart and friends, freedesktop/xdg)

>I think you're missing all the shit that went into 16.04...

- They had to move, in a single release, from their own init replacement upstart to full systemd.
- they had to make Mir compatible with systemd
- they included full support for ZFS
- they included their complete new container format
- new types of packages that allow for installation in said containers

There was almost no changes to UX at all, some new icons - but designers aren't exactly programmers - so it's not like they're choose one or the other...

Most everything in this LTS was under the hood changes.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>>
>>54285628
Long term support doesn't necessarily mean stable in the first few months.
The maintainers are working like crazy to iron out all the problems that people are finding after release so that they can push out updates and a new 16.04.1 image later this year.

>Not using Ubuntu MATE

I had the same experience with 16.04.
Slow, buggy, uncostomisable.

I can't even open a tab in terminal or change the purple background colour!

Installed Ubuntu MATE, it's fast, stable, it has more features than Unity or Gnome 3 and it just works!

It's like Linux before the cool and hip kids took over.

Ubuntu mate is fantastic. Not only has it all those old good gnome applications like gedit (pluma) but it is fast. Mate is progressing quite nicely with 1.10 and 1.12 fixing a lot of bugs, papercuts and legacy shit. It really feels like pre unity ubuntu now and it is glorious. Wimpress is doing wonderful job with default configuration including things like synapse.
>>
>>54286453
Pretty much you can say it is relative to other popular desktop environments it has the slowest and shittiest development right now.
When they finally decide to update they do a shitty job.

simple as is:
debian is released When it's Done (TM).

Canonical clings on his 04, 10, 04, 10, 04LTS, 10... release circle, and basically releases Debian experimental/unstable as a "stable, long term support" release.
>>
>>54286579
MATE is awesome!
It's amazing what a small team can do when they are not blindly following the latest trends

The only thing I miss is an instant search and open files and applications thingy like proprietary OS's have and then it will be perfect

And I would also like to have resizeable windows when you snap them to the edge of the screen, this must a bug

Even without that it shits all over Gnome 3 and Unity. What were they thinking?

This release of Xubuntu is actually terribly fucking buggy, I installed it so far on 2 laptops and both suffer from the same bug where mouse cursor disappears after suspend. Fucking annoying as shit, and those laptops are fucking business tier elitebook and chinkpad, which are usually top fucking tier for lunix. I don't know what devs are doing because this time around LTS is really fucking shit. Fresh install btw.

You're an absolute retard, only Pajeets and developers install first day releases.
