Congratulations on having such a piece of shit machine that can't even run 7. Seriously, kill yourself and get a better notebook, even the Acer Aspire One is better than your utter piece of garbage. Anyways, enjoy the slowest piece of shit you have. At least try Windows Home Server,if you like such shit.

what did win 7 "provide" over XP - they're both GUIS microsoft has tried to elevate the GUI above anything. microsoft made the GUI an issue. They haven't even settled on a design (in decades). The fact that a good deal of people are still running XP highlights the failure of microsoft. They have provided nothing above

Why do people seriously think that taking POS2009 updates protects them?

The systems that POS2009 is designed for are extremely limited in functionality and no way are intended for a fully fledged networked computer.

The measure of an operating system in the 21st century is not how well it runs the applications from, and on the hardware from the previous century.

XP is a dinosaur, and Vista was better.

Seriously guys. I loved it too a decade ago but it's time to move on. Embedded is a good option if you use your system for very little things but for a fully working PC you need to get another OS.

I have no choice - I don't like Linux and my computer can't run a newer version of Linux.

You would have certificate problems if you kept using Chrome, anyway. For example, if you try visiting the /g/ wiki, which uses the "Let's Encrypt" SSL, you won't be able to access it unless you use Firefox.

It's a shitty experience but I'm not going to update any time soon.
>>
>>54291155

>>
>>54291243
A light DE will run nicely on that hardware. I have an old memempad t60 I use as a HTPC in my kid's room. It's a 1.6Ghz C2D with 1,5 GiB of RAM running Ubuntu MATE 32-bit. It works way better than XP or 7.

MATE Tweak makes it look like Windows and WINE can make up for whatever Windows-only software you need.

You could dual-boot and see if it works for you.
>>
>>54291359
Wouldn't Lubuntu work better?

Anyway, I'll try both Mate and Lubuntu in dual boot, and pick whichever runs better.

Holy shit do you people even remember XP? It was awful, nothing ever worked, every day you had to update it because it had some security flaw, because they let Indians work on it without any supervision. Sure it was light, but if you want a light system, install Arch and XFCE or something.

I do not miss the days of XP at all. I do feel nostalgia, but I don't need much of reminiscence to remember what it was actually like. 10 years and they never finished it.

hes not wrong though

lubuntu is shit, its ubuntu + more bloat disguised as being lightweight because it uses lxde

honestly, mint + windowmaker is your best bet for a debian based distro with minimal resource usage for normies

for non-normies, arch/gentoo/slackware + any tiling window manager
>>
>>54291027
This is nice
>>54291243
Lubuntu really isn't as light as people like to imply and neither is MATE, If you want a light linux experience unfortunately you have to do it yourself with a minimal install of a distro of your choice + XFCE or a WM but that's far more time consuming.

While you should move away from winblows the truth is POSready runs better than ALL *buntu forks (even xubuntu-core) on 1GB of ram.

Also I'm not an archfag/weeb/furry, just a faggot who wasted way too much time on this shit and wants to save you the effort.

cmd is just fine if you know DOS.

Now let me posit this:

Name one Point of Service machine you know of that runs OSX.

How about servers/mainframes? I know WinServer isn't that popular there but they do exist.

What kind of logistics management tools do you know of that exist on OSX? How about IT systems?

OSX is consumer-based- and it's good at that, but stating that Windows has no use when it very clearly does just because YOU have no use for it is flat out wrong.

So does OS X Server.
>What kind of logistics management tools do you know of that exist on OSX?
can't tell you one that runs on Windows
>How about IT systems?
How about the plethora of programs that Linux has? Most run on OS X as well.
