>wanted to try Unity on arch
>need to add a new repo to pacman
>okay
>install a bunch of packages that overwrite gtk, lightdm and such
>crashes on login
>oh, turns out the repo is out of date and you have to manually compile from a github repo
how much did canonical have to fuck with to make this DE impossible to install outside of ubuntu

what happened to the days when they actually contributed to the linux ecosystem instead of forking everything

Christ linux is disgusting.
>>
i feel bad for you, anon

cinnamon is nicer for me
>>
>>54269365
Why would you want to install it outside Ubuntu? If you really want to use Unity, just install Ubuntu. You won't have to jump through so many hoops just to use your computer.
>>
>>54269378
naw i'm just trying to do something obviously completely unsupported. have fun trying to customize your windows 10 pajeet
>>
>>54269392
i hate apt and fixed release distros in general. Unity was pretty comfy though, and makes more sense on a desktop than gnome shell.
>>54269387
cinnamon a shit
>>
>>54269395
I don't get this meme. The pajeets should still be on XP.
>>
>>54269410
How is GNOME usable on literally anything other than a desktop?
>>
>>54269443
its works great on my touchscreen laptop, actually. its got pinch zoom, and even some gestures
>>
>>54269365
They contribute, just nothing useful at the UI level. Xubuntu, Lubuntu etc. are all pretty nice because you get up to date packages but no Unity.
>>
>>54269381
Indeed. Last time I replaced my DE on windows my package manager did not complain at all and everything went smooth as fuck
>>
Why the fuck do you have Arch if you are going to run something like Unity? Jesus christ, dude.

Take a day to config awesome and stop using a DE entirely, thank me later.

Meanwhile on Gentoo
# layman -a unity-gentoo
# eselect profile set x
# emerge -av unity-build-env
emerge -uDNavt unity-meta

Done'd.

Cinnamon is shit, Just use mate, LXDE, or XFCE
>>
God dash is terrible
>>
>>54269365
What's wrong with manual compilation? That's all I do on Gentoo.
>>
>>54269365
all stuff canonical do aren't easy to install on other destributions. Even debian.
Those guys are fucking morrons.

Was the repo by Cannonical? Nope. The repo was outdated but so its Github. If you used Unity-for-Arch from the wiki, then it has to be updated for over a year.
You can try though the official source and see how it goes. Don't be stupid and use fakeroot (through a pkgbuild file) so you don't fuck your system again.

>>
>>54269759
Try it and then come back. It looked good on theory for arch too.
>>
>>54269365
why would you even install that shit anyway? even most ubuntu users hate it and use the kde or xfce versions.
