Is most of this board underage? Do you not remember the massive shitsorm that started after 9/11 that is still happening to this day? Do you want another 9/11? Do you want more Americans to needlessly die?

The US Government needs access to everyone's data because it needs access to terrorist's data. This means that yes, we can compel you to enter the password on a hard drive with indefinite detention and imprisonment. If you encrypt something and you don't cooperate, you're going in for life, so the idea that encryption can protect you from government intrusion is bullshit. If we want your data, we're getting it. There is absolutely no information in the United States that the United States' Government cannot access given sufficient time and resources.

http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2016/04/child-porn-suspect-jailed-for-7-months-for-refusing-to-decrypt-hard-drives/

Give up your fantasies of privacy. We don't care about what porn you watch or the women you creep on. We want to protect America, and that means sniffing every last goddamned packet and collecting all the metadata we can. We have machine learning tools that would make Deep Mind blush, and we are getting smarter every day.

Let us know if any of you experienced developers and computer scientists are interested in a career with us.

Go. Fuck. Yourself. You. Ultra. Faggot. Of. An. Original. Poster.

9/11 happened two days before I left for college. I was (and remain) relatively conservative. I remember it very well.

And the *only* safeguard we have (had?) against losing our society exists in our Constitution, and those who *actually* defend it (of whom there are fewer and fewer).

If the price of liberty is a bit of security, so fucking be it. It's a "sacrifice" that our founders would have been more than happy to make (and that they did, indeed, make).

The *real* sacrifice is surrendering liberty for security. *That* is a bridge to far.

Fuck off NASA. Go invent FTL or something instead.
>>
>>54266892

It has a good deal to do with it, if you think about it. It's essentially the last big-budget, main stream, box-office and critical success that was a full blooded defense of liberty. We used to have pictures like that relatively often, and they helped incubate in our society a love of liberty, and an abhorrence against those who propose more restricted system (either through fascism, tyranny, or the powerful but veiled hand of surveillance).

We moved away from those, and there hasn't been anything that would induce the masses of common men (I know how stuck up/elitist this sounds, and apologize for it) to have that same affection for liberty.

We now have an entire generation of people coming of age who haven't had a love of liberty enforced by their culture throughout their childhood. It is not coincidental that this is the same generation that is unbothered by government agencies having access to all of their most personal data.

Lol.
Fair enough, you can jail someone for life.
If this is the case why ban encryption? The person in suspicion has been served justice.

I encrypt my data because i do not want criminals who might steal my computer to have access to my data. I use HTTPS for the same reason.

Thoughts, mr. NSA?

Confirmed Ameritard who knows nothing about British history.

Scotts were no freer than the English, so the war wasn't about liberty, you retard. It was about two royal families getting commoners to die for them.

>>54266983

Historically you are absolutely right. I'm not talking about British history, however; I'm talking about the impact of big-tent blockbuster films in the latter half of the 20th Century.

As an accurate representation of history, Braveheart is abysmal. As a piece of propaganda for the concept of (a partial version of) classical liberty, though? It's outstanding as that.

What the fuck have we been paying out the nose for the last 15 years for then? Are you saying the feds need more than 50% of all citizens income to prevent 9/11 part 2? Fuck, the US is probably killing more INNOCENT people in a day in Afghanistan the past 15 years than died from the 9/11 attacks.

Educate yourself:
Synopsis

>Investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill travels to Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, and other countries where the United States has taken military action in the War on Terror. In Afghanistan, he investigates the United States military and government cover-up of the deaths of five civilians, including two pregnant women killed by US soldiers from the Joint Special Operations Command. After investigating the attack, Scahill travels to other sites of JSOC intervention, interviewing both proponents and opponents, and the survivors, of such raids,[7] including U.S. Senator Ron Wyden.[8]
>>
>>54267328
So some shitskins died as collateral damage. Who gives a fuck?
>>
>>54267371
The once secret JSOC organization who does not report to any military branch, but only to the white house, performed up to 1700 of these raids each night. That is a lot of dead innocent people that got covered up.
