It's probably not connected to the internet all the time. Probably updated sporadically and then used offline. Apparently their IT guy didn't get the memo about intrusive Windows 10 cuckdates. Being offline probably wouldn't stop the latest Windows 10 malware prompts from popping up because the adware is installed via a Windows 7/8 update.
